Hardest corners in Grand Prix Legends
Users named the GPL corners they found most difficult, including the Monaco chicane, La Carriere and Stavelot at Spa, Chapel at Silverstone, Mexico's first turn and Nurburgring T1. Tips included choosing where to finish braking and turning off track textures to reveal brake markers.
setup/driving techniqueGrand Prix Legends
Automated summary.
As far as Spa goes, I have a lot of trouble with Malmedy - so much so, in
fact, that I'm usually quite relived to get to Masta! Stavelot for some
reason I rarely have trouble with - I suppose I've just found a good setup
for it.
The Monaco chicane is nasty, naturally, but I think the one I dislike most
elsewhere is the T1/T2 complex at Mexico. There's just no satisfaction at
all in it, and it's incredibly easy to make a hash of.

I would say the monaco chicane is the most exciting turn...but I would say
one of the turns that is very difficult to get right is the 2nd right hander
in La Carriere (spelling?) at spa. I want to hold all of my speed going
into it, but the car always pushes off the track and up the banking. I
always know I can slow down extra, but then the lap time suffers. So I
would say that it is a turn that is difficult to get right...maybe not very
scary but hard. Another toughy is the hairpin at rouen because of its
braking zone.

I agree with you about Spa. I'd also add that I've always considered
Stavelot to be a bigger hair raiser than Masta. You have to fling the car
around a decreasing radius turn at the very outside edge of the tarmac at
warp speed before you make your turn in if you want to carry any speed
through it.
Other tough turns. Yep, the hairpin at Rouen. Mostly because the braking
zone is primarily curved. Very hard to get just right.
T2 at Mosport. Turn in point just as the car gets light over the hill crest.
Very dodgy and much slower than it looks like it should be.
The whole damn 'ring.

For me, and without any hesitations, its:
- Chicane in Monaco
- Masta in Spa
The "Chicane" in Monaco (after the tunnel) is certainly
the most difficult turn i have ever run. Whaaoouuh !!
Consider yourself lucky to even get to T1 at Monza, online. I can't count
the number times I've been wiped out before I even get there (:

Ah yes. Forgot about those. You hit it right on the nose, only backwards.
It's so easy to make a hash of it, but if you nail it there is no particular
satisfaction involved.

Masta is a doddle IMO... there is pressure on it for sure as the
consequences of a mistake are horrendous, but otherwise nothing to it.

1 I really hate that second right hander before the long hill at Spa - if
you go wide it's game over up the mud bank , too slow and the whole straight
is run too slow.
2 I get a bit nervy about the left hander before the hairpin at Rouen
although I think I've cracked it.
3 St Mary's at Goodwood.

The one turn @ Pants Ring is the toughest ;).
Can't remember how many times I was too fast there and the car just blew off the track...

Don't look for a braking marker, look at where you want to stop braking
rather than where you want to start... It's a bit of a leap of faith, but
once you get used to it you won't "miss" your braking points for these sorts
of turns anymore.

Stavelot at Spa, Casino at Monaco and Big Bend at the Glen are the ones
where I always fall off.

Cheers!

I have one turn at almost every track that gives me first (except Monza and
Kyalami...i seem to have them down pretty good). But heres a list of the ones
I get in troube on alot.
Mexico: First turn, just like everyone else it seems. I just cant for the life
of me get the braking right for this.
Monaco: Surpisingly not the chicane (though thats a close second) but Tabac. I
always seem to run wide here.
Mosport: Turn 7 after the big hump at the end of Andretti straight. I end up
off the track here alot it seems.
the Ring: oh...pick any one of the 174 and ill prolly have trouble with it :)
Rouen: that blasted hairpin!! I really like GPL-REV for this track cause i can
run it backwards and make the hairpin much easier :)
Spa: Masta and those two right hand "kinks" before the Blanchimont section.
Silvetstone: Abbey. Ive taken out those poor marshals behind the haybales so
many times theyre gonna start pressing charges...
Watkins Glen: Big Bend...I run wide here alot...more so than the loop.
Zandy: Oh lord...I screw up any number of places here. But the worst spot for
me is the left-right bit between Tarzan and that hairpin behind the pits
(hugenholtz i think).
A couple other hair raisers are the first corner at brands (good lord im gonna
kill myself I cant remember the name of it), the last turn at Road Atlanta, and
that double switchback at Solitude after the looooong straight...Ive parked it
on that hotels(?) front porch several times now...
Chris
Look to your right as you thunder past start/finish at the ring... when you
get to the last yellow block of advertising on the building, brake.
That works (almost) everytime for me.

I agree about T1 at Mexico, very tough to judge, probably because it's a
rarely driven circuit. Also the approach to the hairpin at Rouen can be
tricky.
A circuit with only great turns - Zandvoort :)

even easier..ANY TURN!!
I have a lot... hehe
Rouen: The Hairpin. I can NEVER brake correctly for that.
Mexico: The first corner. I've never run that turn well. I can't find out
how to keep the damn back end under me. Oh, and pretty much every other turn
at this hellhole of a track sucks. :)
Mosport: Turn 2 and the corner after the hump
Monza: Parabolica. I can NEVER make it through there without getting
"Surteesed" in the back or spinning off into the sand pit
Spa: The two medium fast right hand bends about 3/4s the way through a lap.
Always run wide...

Oh god, yes. I'm perfectly matching Dave Kaemmer's speed at Spa up until
these turns, but at the finish line I'm three seconds behind him. I
can never, EVER get them right.
Others:
The sadistic hairpin at Mosport.
The sadistic hairpin at Rouen.
The section of Monaco between the start and finish lines.
Abbey at Silverstone - I just can't stay on the gray bit of the track
there.

Here's something that I guarantee works: Turn OFF track textures! You
end up with excellent brake marker lines right in the asphalt surface.
This is especially helpful at T1 in the 'Ring.
(I'm not sure, though, whether this works with a 3D card installed because
I don't have one)

But that's one of the *best* corners! Getting that one right and coming
out of it high in 4th is *so* satisfying... that I often forget to brake
for the tight right hander ahead :-)
Andrew McP
Turn 2 at Kyalami. *Why* can't I ever get near the apex?
The last few turns before the long straight at the Nurburgring. Not that
there's anything particularly taxing about them, but they come right at the
point where my ability to concentrate withers away.
The first Lesmo at Monza. You'd think I'd have gotten that one right by
now, but no.
The corner at the end of the straight that follows Eau Rouge and Radillon..
I don't know why.
The first corner at Silverstone. Again, I don't know why.
Half the corners at Monaco
People often seem to mention Mexico as their least favorite track, but I've
always loved it! Yeah, the first few turns suck, but the twisty esses part,
along with the last corner, are sheer awesomeness.

Ah, yes my choice for the nastiest turn at Spa too. ('La Carriere', is
it?) You just drift and drift, and one pixel of dirt on the outside
tyre it's byebye.
Tabac at Monaco, I've managed to slam it into the bars/concrete there
more times than I'd like to count. The chicane before it I've never
had that much trouble with, oddly enough....
The turn before Hangar straight at Silverstone, the turn-in is *damn*
hard to get right... online half of all cars seems to run out on the
grass...

If you know that you have made a good lap so far you have
that looong straight to think about how to waste it this time.
Play it safe and lose a lot of time all the way down to Tiergarten,
or go for it and end up in the hedges!

Those two, especially the second, are quite infuriating! From the circuit

That's because you just *know* that if you could carry just a little bit
more speed through there, the lap is going to be SO good.
Of course, if you do get both of them spot on, just kicking up dust from the
right side tires at the apex, you KNOW you're going to run wide at
Blanchimont......................
