In the last few weeks I have been steadily improving my GPL Rank. Last
night I knocked 0.87 seconds off my PB at Zandvoort. In doing so I
noticed that I was doing something similar to cadence braking into
Tarzan. This really seemed to slow me down quicker and allow me to go
deeper into the bend. Is this a technique other people are using? You
regularly hear about trail braking but never cadence braking.
For those of you who aren't familiar with the term cadence braking, it
involves the rapid application and removal of pressure to the brake
pedal to simulate the effect of anti-lock brakes. It is the technique
which was taught to avoid skidding under heavy braking before the
advent of anti-lock braking systems.
Cheers

Do it all the time, it's the best way to avoid lockups, but not
neccessarily with a "rapid application and removal", more like holding
the brakes until *just* before they lock, then easing off for a split
second before re-applying. Sort of "rhytmic braking". I find it helps
to not come completely off the brakes unless absolutely necessary (ie:
if I've locked a wheel), but that's just personal preference

I'm
on and off the brakes very quickly on corners that need hard braking
(Parabolica for instance). I just listen for the brake squeal and back off.
A lot like driving on snow, as others have observed.

I do that a lot, Phil. Makes it easier to steer the car while braking. It's
not going to shorten braking distances of course, unless you were always
locking up before.
Bye,
Leo
I've tried that tecnique to, but only when i lock my whells, then, instead
of lifting the pressure, i back completely off and then back on the brakes.
It works much better for me, than just to lift the pressure.
Jeppe
Used to brake that way but now find that progressively and gently increasing
brake pressure as the car slows works better for me.

Is there any other kind of braking? :-) I've used cadence braking right
from the start, seems more reliable than trusting that I've managed to get
my foot/pedal in the optimum position. Back in the patching days I hoped
for a visual indicator onscreen for brake/accelerator feedback.
