Hasbro's Answer about Heat Problems.. What a Joke!

Notable threadFlame warBacklash at Hasbro's Ed Martin over NASCAR Heat AI complaints

A user complained that Hasbro had dismissed questions about NASCAR Heat's yellow-flag AI problems on its forum. Hasbro's Ed Martin questioned why forum matters were raised on r.a.s., drawing heavy criticism for an unprofessional reply, while Bruce Kennewell and others defended him as one of few company reps willing to post there. Marc Collins offered praised constructive criticism, and Martin noted the AI was being addressed in the next patch.

Did anyone see the post on Hasbro's board where someone just asked a simple question "Why was Nascar heat released the way it was, with uplayable yellow flags (laps lasting forever, cars ramming you). Even with the patch there are still numerous problems. Anyway, Dan from Hasbro answered by saying "None of the problems were seen in testing" Excuse me? Anyone who bought this game saw them within 10 minutes of playing. Then he defends the Beta Testers by saying that everone makes mistakes. The game was released unfinished and Hasbro knew it. They just wanted to get the game out by the end of Nascar season and beat Nascar 4 to market (Which at the time was sceduled for a November release) And Hasbro, when using Beta Testers, don't use the same testers who test Frogger 1 and 2 for you. Look for real Beta Testers who know a little about racing sims. Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
Too right... you need a team that forces a re-write if need be! ;-) Jan. =--- <[email hidden]> wrote...

If the market found these problems within ten minutes of opening the box, what's the point of hiring "real beta testers"? Seems to me that it wouldn't be necessary to know anymore than how to load a CD. What's a "real Beta Tester" anyway...a real beta version of a tester, one who tests real betas or ...what? -- Regards, Bruce Kennewell, Canberra, Australia. --------------------------- <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8tj6ls$t60$[email hidden]... > Excuse me? Matt, Exactly what is the point of asking people in this forum if they read a thread in the NASCAR Heat forum? Last time I checked, rec.autos.sims folks were here and NASCAR Heat forum folks were there. Sure, a lot of people read both by why would you expect commentary in this forum for things talked about in another forum? Perhaps we should start posting here in RAS about things in all the other news groups? <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8tj6ls$t60$[email hidden]...

I think that most of the testing was done to see what would make the game crash, not necessarily for how 'Nascar correct' it was or how it played. Then when they announced a patch, some of the problems that still exist weren't mentioned (at least not much) by people in this news group. Maybe that's because bigger issues masked the smaller ones, but the patch did fix many of the things that were complained about the most. Even after the patch was released, nobody complained about the existing problems for 3 or 4 days. Not even the hard core simmers in here. There are still some things that we'd all (including me) like to see fixed, but I can see how things are missed in testing. MS released 98SE and it wouldn't even shut down normally. Does that mean that their testers never turned off their computers? Probably. They could have just run 98SE until it crashed, never actually shutting it down. (It's the only guess I have ;) I'd guess that the impending sale of Hasbro's game division has Ed and some of the other guys a little on edge. Perhaps some friendlier persuasion would help get another patch released. If we want to scream at someone, point it at Hasbro's board of directors. I think it's too bad that the competitive nature of the software industry forces companies to release products before they're perfect, but it seems to be the way things will continue. It is, and has to be, about profit. That means getting your product to market first, timing it for when the market will be hot, then targeting the largest audience. It's not competing with GPL, it's competing with N3, NFS:PU and arcade games. Most consumers (not in here) are on a game budget. They'll either buy NH or a different game, but probably not both. The profit motive brings us games we want, like GP3 and NH. It also brings them to us in an imperfect state. Just my opinion, gents. -- Slot Tweaks & Reviews www.slottweak.com PS I've found that staying low on the track during yellows while I'm finding my place in line, and staying high when I'm in line, helps to minimize the rear-ending I receive. In other words, let the cars that should be in front of me pass me on the high side. It helps some. <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8tj6ls$t60$[email hidden]... > Did anyone see the post on Hasbro's board where someone just asked a > simple question "Why was Nascar heat released the way it was, with > uplayable yellow flags (laps lasting forever, cars ramming you). Then what exactly are you doing here Ed ???? He posted about Heat and you replied. If it's not necessary to post about heat here then I ask again what are you doing here. I haven't posted anything about Heat since I took it back and got my refund, but If I were to post it somewhere it would be on topic here. I see nothing wrong with posting info from one forum to the next if it's on topic. I believe that you once again didn't like the way Hasbro is being portrayed and you once again in desperation are trying to defend the BS Hasbro pulled on us. This time it appears to be with a cheap shot at the original poster for posting something from one forum to another. IT'S ON TOPIC if you don't like people reading negatively into your post over there then one word for ya "Proofread" , Your reply is so silly it's pathetic.
I had hopes for Heat, and was sorely dissappointed fairly quickly after I got it. Then I held on for the patch, and when it didn't fix the ai problems, I gave up on it. I really wanted to run a season with it, but after getting creamed over halfway into a race by the ai, I decided it wasn't worth the hassle. -- Don Burnette Dburn in N3 and Legends ICQ# 74084566 <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8tj6ls$t60$[email hidden]... > Did anyone see the post on Hasbro's board where someone just asked a > simple question "Why was Nascar heat released the way it was, with > uplayable yellow flags (laps lasting forever, cars ramming you). You're right Ed, Nascar Heat DEFINATELY should not be discussed in a simulator newsgroup. Does rec.autos.arcade even exist yet? By the way Ed, that was a shitty way to reply.....in case you havn't been able to tell that yet. This is a racing newsgroup, it belongs here as much as GPL, Nascar 3, GP3, or any other racing game. Well, I thought you were a pretty straight-up guy, Ed, but this non-reply seems to indicate otherwise. You've been posting in RAS for months, specifically on the subject of NH, so why should the post to which you refer be some sort of surprise to you? And I'm not slamming you either, but I'd certainly also like to know the answer to Dave Henrie's question: "...is it true your beta testers missed the yellow flag and pit problems?" If it's true, then you need some beta testers who understand NASCAR; if it's not true, then you've got much bigger problems than that. These caution and pit glitches that people have been asking about ever since the release of NH aren't nitpicks -- they're important to the play of the game, if the game is to be taken seriously. Greg Barnett made an excellent point as well, when he asked, in response to your question: Ed Martin: "Exactly what is the point of asking people in this forum if they read a thread in the NASCAR Heat forum?" G. Barnett: " Then what exactly are you doing here Ed? He posted about Heat and you replied." You can't have it both ways: if you're going to maintain a presence in the newsgroup, you're going to get questions about your product -- isn't that the point? Or is the point to make it *look* like Hasbro actually cares about the people who buy their product, without having the hassle of actually making the product work like it *ought* to work? Call me crazy... Ed Martin wrote: > > Matt, > > Exactly what is the point of asking people in this forum if they read a > thread in the NASCAR Heat forum?

Ahem... Nascar Heat has the best vehicle dynamics in Nascar sims at the moment. I wouldn't go any further than that. I don't think it's too much to ask of a racing sim to be able to actually race it and Ed voluntarily put himself in the line of fire. If he's unable to distance himself sufficiently and not just gain feedback for the development team from the posts that's his own doing. Jan. =--- Red 86 Vet wrote...

Granted the AI has some problems during cautions, but to extend the AI problems beyond that is just an exageration of the facts. Nascar Heat is very playable as it sits, one must overlook some small issues. I have played Heat almost every day since is was released, and I enjoy it as much now, or possibly more, than the first time I played it. >I don't think it's too much to ask of a racing sim to be able to actually >race it and Ed voluntarily put himself in the line of fire. That might have been me. I was banned from the NH group for a very similar post. On going cautions and wrecks at the end of pit road. There was even a few occasions where I had to wait til the pack passed to go back on the track. Got lapped in the process...all on a 20 second pitstop...and besides that the last 30 laps at TMS went under the caution...sucks! <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8tj6ls$t60$[email hidden]...

A given deal that the beta testers understood NASCAR or a given deal that Hasbro needs some? If Hasbro's beta testers for NH were even remotely familiar with the real world of NASCAR (or most other racing, for that matter), one would have to opine that they overlooked some fairly glaring "unrealities" in the game, or that they made their observations of these problems known to Hasbro, which chose to ignore them to get the game out the door ahead of the thought-to-be-imminent N4. Again, if *any* of these conjectures are correct, it doesn't put Hasbro in a very flattering light.

Very true. And that I don't defend. However, it never ceases to amaze me that people who bitch about a product do so in such a manner that it either drives the company representative away immediately or causes such a reaction that, inevitably, the company rep throws his arms up in despair and is never heard from again. If Ed came on here and said " I am sorry we released this product the way it was. It was a business decision. We were wrong. We will try to fix our product with patches as soon as possible." I would then have some respect for him. Instead he defends his beta testers and pretends they were unaware of the problems. You people are un-fucking-believable. What do you want? No developers creating sims? (Except your precious Papyrus, of course. They can do no wrong.) Fucking sad. You get deleted on some other forum so you go to cry about it on ras. Just get back to posting about your whoopidy-shit personal best at the 'ring, like anyone cares. Bleh.

Oops...bad reply, Ed. But you seem like a straight-up guy, so I'll assume you are just having a bad day. We all do sometimes. Discussion of NH on this NG dropped-off dramatically when the Hasbro board went up and posts were responded to fairly and openly. Anticipation of the patch created a lot of excitement on the board. Since the patch was released, the official replies have been guarded and much less forthcoming. There are still glaring problems with the non-computer controlled pitting sequences (as though it was assumed no one would actually use this option) and yellow flag/caution situations. People, with varying approaches from polite to downright rude and outrageous, have largely wanted to know one thing: are these issues being fixed (in a second patch) and if so, when (approximately) will it be ready? The 180 degree about face from the open and up-front acknowledgement of issues and daily updates preceding the release of the patch have been replaced with vague, non-committal statements that have yet to confirm that these issues will be fixed. I think the task at hand is simple. Revert back to your original approach and tell the truth. Either Hasbro/MGI is fixing this stuff or it isn't. If you are not, you're going to get a shit kicking in this group and I am not sure if it makes a great deal of difference whether that happens now or later. It may be worse if it happens later, because people may have invested more time into a title that you cannot race a season or do a championship with...which is of interest to most in this NG. If you are fixing them, but it may take a while, then say so to shut up the people who are speculating that you are not. If you aren't sure how well it will come out, but you are going to give it your best efforts, then say so. NH has merits that make it worth a purchase. It drives me insane to think that developers do 90% of the work to make a great tile and then drop the ball on the last 10%--the part that gives a title the lasting appeal). Compare GPL and CART:Precision Racing if you need to see the two approaches. With all of its inferior physics and graphics, N3 is a better racing game over the long haul because you don't get abused by the AI and they don't seem to have an unfair advantage over you, the human player. If NH had the same qualities, with it's superior graphics and physics, it would be a total success. I hate to say this, but I am 95% sure N4 will have the game play qualities that make a long-term winner. It will also have physics at least as good as NH and likely better. The graphics are likely to be a bit inferior, but at the end of the day no one will remember that...they'll only remember which title gave the white knuckle racing fun (which NH has in the Beat the Heat segments). It's up to you to make sure NH can do more than Beat the Heat segments well. I hope you can deliver as I will be severely disappointed if NH gets treated like CART:PR did...left to tease with it's great potential, but unable to deliver. Thanks, Marc. In the history of the NG!??!?!? I wouldn't go that far, but I am glad you liked it. I said early on that I would be buying NH for no other reason that to support the participation of Hasbro in this NG (and then later on their own board). No one here could believe the degree to which Ed and the others were honest and forthright and informative and open about NH--including it's known short comings. The fact that I am even thinking for a moment of comparing the current situation with NH to the CART:PR fiasco makes me shudder. Marc. Posting complaints and problems with the game is one thing and it's great! But wanting and enjoying a financial downfall of a company as posted by a certain person: "I agree.. Why?
