Hey,
I've just finished making a clutch pedal add-on for my old TSW. Now all
I need is a sim that uses a clutch ;-) What do you guys recommend? I've
been out of the loop for a while now. (Nascar2 and TEN where my last sim
experiences..) Thanks for any info.

Which sims support a clutch pedal
A user who built a clutch pedal for his TSW wheel asked which sims used one. Replies listed GPL, NASCAR Heat, Viper Racing and GP3, with debate over whether a pedal clutch was realistic for modern F1. Users disagreed on whether GPL's clutch was analog, with one explaining it simulates an abrupt racing clutch.
Automated summary.
GPL of course.

Stupid. It *IS* realistic that you can activate a manual clutch in GP3. You
don't have to use a pedal, any device will do.
GPL and Nascar Heat both use the clutch, but in NH you don't need it that
badly.

NowI use the clutch pedal in GP3 for 2 things. Starts. rev it up and drop the
clutch, and when I spin, pop the clutch and spin it around.... You don't
have to use it for shifting, but it's still active for the other fun... heh.

About 2.5? I think Damon Hill and a couple of other people still used foot
clutches in '98 - only for the start and pit-stops, of course!

Neither do you in GPL if yo want to go any bit fast at all :-)
Unfortunaly a 5% race distance is pushing it.
Stupid. The question was basically in reference to which games support a
clutch pedal, not necessarily a clutch. It's great the GP3 supports a
manual clutch, but it would be more realistic if the clutch was implemented
as a button on the wheel, not a pedal.

Actually, an analog paddle on the wheel would be more appropriate. Some
wheels (Guillemot?) have switched gearchange paddles, and also analog gas
and brake paddles if you don't want to use the foot pedals. Perhaps it
would be possible to configure one as the clutch.

That just depends on your setup. I have a Thrustmaster Sprint wheel and
with some persuasion the analog paddles on the wheel can be assigned as
a clutch. It's really awesome in GP3!

But GP3 supports a clutch whether it's on the floor or up your anus
(provided it's connected). A clutch is a clutch, the PC doesn't know where
it's located.

Not at all, F1 cars use an analogue clutch paddle, so why not have an
analogue paddle on your sim wheel, which, I think, would be highly
realistic.

ps is there are a set of pedals available with a clutch that i can
hook straight into a force -rs ?

than starts, it's rather worthless. But the main problem with clutch pedals
is that... I have yet to see a pedal setup that supports heel-toe shifting.
I have the SRC wheel which has top hinged pedals, but the brake and gas
pedals are not staggered. So if I can't toe-heel, then I might as well not
use a clutch.

I just installed a clutch on my ECCI CDS4000. I've only used it on GPL so far,
but my question is, should it be so abrupt? I expected a more gradual
engagement, it seems as if it engages within about two millimeters of pedal
travel, hardluy enough motion for proper modulation.

progressive as you family car. Bare in mind GPL has a racing
clutch coded and racing clutches are quick acting and strong.
My friend has a Ford Sierra/Cosworth RS500 with a racing clutch
in it and I found it difficult to drive around town due to the
hard biting clutch. However getting off the mark at the light
posed no problems.
With my RRC pedal units the clutch in GPL is progressive to the
point that I can gently let out the clutch under high RPM and
the car slowly starts to move off while the engine takes the
load. In practice however I just dump the clutch on the start
grid.
