Did you read this at the 3DFiles download site?
"Please note that in order to minimize the size of the demo, the
textures and in-game graphics have been JPEG compressed. This may
result in reduced image quality."

nothing to be frightened of, and no limit, any fool could get into
a motor car and racing would not exist as a sport." -- Jim Clark
Mitch -
I too run Windows 2000 with an SB Live (as well as a Geforce DDR 64MB video
card). I can get it to work by using the command line editor and checking
the box that bypasses error messages. Even though you can get in (software
mode only) - unfortunately you can't use 3D sound (even on Windows 98) with
an SB Live as I tried this at a friends at lunch today and it did not work
on his machine either. You also can't use D3D on Windows 2000 with DTRSC.
They didn't want to change the code from DTR and I guess they think this is
acceptable.
On my friends Win 98 box he has a 32MB Geforce 2 and I figured I'd crank
DTRSC all the way up to see what it looks like at it's best. 1600x1200 on a
GeForce 2 and tires still look like boxes. LOL. The cockpit is not 6DOF
either. Seems pretty stationary to me. Without 3D sound, lame grahics
(even maxed on Win98) and 2nd rate cockpit view I think this title is pretty
mediocre.
Another one bites the dust...

Also curious why this game requires a reboot after install?
Mitch
Heh
The one time I didn't put in the standard "Rrevved Win2k" disclaimer he gets
me :-).
I should have read the readme before I posted this question as it clearly
explains the error and command line fix.
I would also agree with D.Cook as to the quality of this "game". IMO it's
just DTR with sprint cars.... But still fun. I guess the name fits :-)

Sorry cant help your with the sound error. Get the latest drivers seems to
be the common answer to all problems so try that ;p
As for the reboot. I said to h... with the reboot - I want to play. So I
played it without the reboot. No problems! So I dont know why it needs a
reboot... ehmmz..

This is also in the readme:
-3dsound
As in version 1.02 and above of DTR (the first patch), DTRSC does not
use 3D sound by default. This is because it causes errors on certain
sound cards. Use this option to enable 3D sound if desired.

I doubt if the issues with the graphics that I'm referring to have
anything to do with jpeg compression...

So, does that make it okay to release a game that doesn't support good
3D sound? We're talking about a Soundblaster sound card here! I read
the readme BTW.

I think it's OK to release a game that doesn't run perfectly well in a
non-gaming OS.

Read my post. SB Live did not work with DTR Sprints 3D-Sound on my
friend's Windows 98 PC.

It may be done "all the time", but IMHO that does not make it "ok".
Secondly the non-3D sound alternative that DTR Sprints offers is
terrible. That just add's to the frustration.
