Ok, I need some help here.
Am at Lowes and have to finish 3rd or better to advance. Almost as soon as
I get control of the car, Jeff Burton and company blow by me. If I block
them, they just pass me on the outside or inside. And once by me the just
pull away.
They ( All of the suckers ) just leave me sitting there. Blow by me on the
curves and pull away on the straights.
Am I missing something? This game was fun up until frustration set in.
1. Yes, my wheel is calibrated for full throttle.
2. No, I am not pressing the wrong pedal.
3. Yes, my machine has enough power to run it. ( PIII 933 )
Made it through the other challenges fairly easily.
Question: I have all the aids ( that I can find ) off. Why does this thing
act as if I am pressing the brakes when entering the turns in B.T.H.?
Thanks,
Robert
That's my point. I am not lifting. The dang thing is slowing of it's own
accord and they are blowing by me.
Maybe it's this ActLabs wheel. Their site said " Windows ME drivers soon ".
Maybe I should wait and see how it acts then. I really don't think it's the
problem, but hey, it couldn't be me!! :-)
Oh, I don't remember how it was in Win98, but my ActLabs Force USB paddles
stopped working and the light for button 12 is on solid. I have the RS
shifter in neutral. Is this normal?

This one was fairly hard compared to the rest of them and I think I
can possibly help you with the very start. (There are more
frustrating ones coming, though...)
The flying start is especially pesky at this track since it dumps you
right before the two little lefts before turn one. If you anticipate
it too much, you will try to turn your wheel before you get control
from the game and lose momentum in the split second while you are
turning the wheel straight again. Try this:
leave the wheel perfectly straight when it gives you control and
quickly turn a little to the left when you get the control. It
allowed me to keep up with the pack into the first turn, and if I stay
on the bottom, I can actually get past a few cars right there.
NH has very pronounced draft modelling. Loews is a track where you
can use this to keep up and also to pass.
Remember you aren't going to get a DQ (or a canned spin) for cutting
through the grass a little bit if there's no room on the bottom of the
track, especially down the front 'straight.'

bth runs in arcade mode ... so the handling is very relaxed compared to the
expert/ hard core modes ... you pretty much dont have to lift in the corners
... keep it flat and you should be able to get third without too much
trouble

Thats IT! you shouldn't be racing with an Accord...Try a
Monte or Grand Prix or Taurus....
sorry I couldn't resist... good luck figuring that one out!

I don't have that wheel hooked up right now, but I think button 12 is the
one that's an on/off button (SPST), not a momentary contact button. The
paddles won't work if the Shifter is plugged in unless you do the mod on
T&R.

Robert I am having the same problem as you :) I got to the 6th level in
BTH pretty easily, but in the Lowes race where you have to be fast in the
traffic to get 3rd I just can't keep up. I am also flat everywhere and the
AI are faster through the turns and down the straight!! I also noticed
that the car was slowing down for the turns by itslef. If I lifted while
turning into the corners it would slow me down even more.
I have since stopped playing BTH and am just racing single races in
hardcore mode. This is a lot more to my liking, cause I can beat the Pro
AI if I am driving well, and the car feels so alive it's great ;-)
I have a Hyper, so this problem isn't controller related. I really don't
know how people can get past this level, or how they can get Gold
trophies on all of them.

Whew.
I finally managed to beat this sucker. Put Mr. Andretti into the wall right
in front of Mr. Intimidator and stole me a bronze.
Tried all of the suggestions posted here and I couldn't make 'em work. I
got lucky as those guys caught the " Lappers " and managed to put him in the
wall. Seems like a shame to have to resort to cheating in order to advance.
Still, after about 100+ attempts, I would have taken a " Act Of God " to get
by this one.
