Hi,
I downloaded the GP3 demo on my 56k modem (took two days!) and I haven't
played it much yet, but I am wondering why the game chooses to use software
rendering instead of using my video card. It uses direct3d right? I have a
P2-350 and a 4 meg Diamond Stealth II S220 (works great in GPL) which
supports Direct3d. Does the demo not support hardware rendering? If it
does how can I enable it? My config file says that my graphics card is
unavailable? Any thoughts?

Yes, it supports hardware rendering. It's probably a video card driver
problem. Update drivers and run the video selelction test again. If
that doesn't work then maybe you need a more current video card. A 4mb
video card is really pushing your luck these days.
