Works great with a GF256. IMO it looks a lot better than what I was getting
with V2-SLI. But that may only be because I can run it at 1600x1200 res,
full field, full detail. hehe

using the voodoo-version?
The flashing menus are a vsync issue in D3D mode, I believe. Change
your vsync setting and see if that clears it up.

Yes, it's pretty excellent.
> and how it is against using the voodoo-version?
That would depend on the Voodoo card, but expect D3D on a GeForce to be
slower than Glide on a V3/V5, but only in the most demanding on conditions.
Online races and testing I get the full 36 fps constantly in D3D. AI races,
slows down at the start of the race, as does the Glide version on a V3, but
more so in D3D. Back up to 36 fps within 10 seconds or so.
V5 and GeForce 2 (D3D) both look more colourful than a V2 or V3.
Works great with my GeForce 2 GTS card.

Worked beautifully until I installed the latest nVIDEA reference drivers
(v6.18). Now I get menu flashing and glitches, but the in-game graphics are
still fine.

The flashing menus ARE a v-sync problem in GPL. I've seen it.

Very strange, though, regardless of which of the 3
choices I select, the "apply" button does not illuminate and if I go back
into the properties after "OK'ing" out, none are selected. My monitor is
showing up correctly in the properties. Any ideas why it won't let me
select an option. I had it successfully set to "Windows Automatically
chooses" (or whatever) before the 6.18/6.26 install.

The monitor timing doesn't show as selected under "Other Options" but does
show under "Output Device"-->Settings. Weird.

D3D vsync function, I wonder? I'm a Voodoo guy myself, but I'm going
to be replacing my Banshee card with a TNT2 soon, so I'll let you know
what I find after I bump my head on this particular problem. In the
meantime, check around for those 3rd-party NVidia utities (they surely
exist -- there are tons for the Voodoo cards).
If all else fails, you might try the Powerstrip utility
(http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ps.htm) -- you can use it to enable or
disable vsync in D3D mode, and it works with all video cards.

I don't think it's a v-sync issue anyway, the screen isn't tearing, it's
flashing, completely different thing. It looks like the D3D rasterizer for
some reason fails to write to the buffer, or fails to flip the surfaces
every so often. You only have to click 'options' or go into the car setup
screen to get rid of it though. Not really a big problem.

I get the flashing and corruption on all the menu screens. Even the replay
screen has a few glitches in the band at the bottom. The in-game screens
are fine.

I get it sometimes when
returning from the track, and I too can make it go away by pressing Esc
twice (brings up 'do you want to end..' and cancels it again). This is since
I have an Asus A7V mobo with Athlon 800 and VIA KT133 chipset. It did not
happen on my Asus P2B with a Celeron as far as I know. The graphics card is
a Geforce 2 with 6.18 drivers.
Another thing is short freezes / hickups in lap 1 in both GPL and GP3,
probably when textures are loaded. Anyone have this, or perhaps even a cure?

Yes! I have exactly the same problem, though I've only noticed it in

to happen with my old Thriller. I'd love to hear of any cure also.

Found the solution myself :)
http://www.geforcefaq.com/#hw:gef:troub:stutter. What helped most was
enabling DMA on the hard drive, but then I already had put the geforce on
its own IRQ.
The stutter in GP3 is gone completely, and in GPL it is much reduced and
hardly noticeable. Perhaps expanding memory from 128 to 256MB would do the
trick completely, but I don't feel like investing right now, systems works
reasonbly fine save for the small stutter in lap 1 in GPL (Athlon 800,
VIAKT133, Geforce 2 GTS DDR).
I've also installed the Nvidia 6.26 reference drivers (found them through an
url in the geforcefaq). Runs ok thus far, and --- surprise surprise --- FSAA
works ok in both GPL and GP3! In GPL I can run 4x4 FSAA in 1280x1024
resolution with no performance penalty :) The only glitch is that the menu
texts are also AA'ed. In GP3 however the processor occupancy is doubled when
alone on the track (regardless of FSAA quality and screen resolution), and
it goes sky high with other cars in view. It even beats a super slomo camera
with other cars around ;-) Still FSAA is useable for hotlapping. Very nice
image with 4x4 FSAA at 1280x1024 :) The 6.18 drivers did not do the job at
all.
