Just got my first repalcement set of gear change paddles after breaking the
orginal "up" paddle. Any mods I can make to increase the life expectancy?

I fixed my original paddles after they broke, using a glue called
'Goop'. Also I reduces the throw of the levers by tying a nylon tie
around each paddle, with the nut between the paddle and the steering
wheel body. Because of the reduced throw the switches were not being
activated. This problem was solved by wedging a small piece of plastic
between the switch mount posts and the frame of the wheel, forcing the
switches on their pcb boards to angle towards the shift levers.
Also I loosened the screws holding the shift levers to allow them room
to move with minimum flexing (the cause of the weakness in the first
place).
This fix has lasted me a month of heavy use so far. Why they would
design such a heavily used part of the wheel around a plastic hinge is
beyond me.
