Well the official web site promises "Technology leading audio including 3D sound. " Where's that (don't say in the box on friday). There isn't even support for EAX or A3D! I got a chance to take a look at GP3 today, and here's my take on it so far: If you look at GP3 versus GP2, and then compare that to N3 versus N2, it seems to me that what Crammond has done with GP3 represents a much greater advance than what Papy accomplished with N3. I recently proposed that Papy should release a D3D update of ICR2/CART, and I still think that would be great -- so, considering that Crammond and Hasbro have essentially given us a D3D update of GP2, I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised with how well it looks, feels, and drives. Calling it "GP2.5" doesn't really do it justice -- it looks and feels pretty darn good to me. For example, I forgot that GP2 featured full 3- point physics -- unlike ICR2/N2/N3/Legends, the cars in GP3 CAN and DO get airborne. Very neat. Add in the excellent weather implementation and it sounds like even more of a winner. GP3's physics aren't in the GPL range, and F12K may still feature the best modern F1 physics yet, but GP3 made me remember how advanced, fun, and accessible GP2 was. I am more excited about GP3 than ever now -- if GP3 meets with the kind of success I think it will, Hasbro and Crammond will have scored a MAJOR victory for sim racing fanatics everywhere. I'm not much of an F1 fan myself, and although I enjoyed GP2, I spent more time playing around with ICR2 at the time. Still, GP3 is very significant, I believe. Yes, GPL is still the sim racing physics king, but it was NOT the kind of commercial success that they hoped for (like GP2 or Papy's own NASCAR sims, for example), and that REALLY gave racing "sims" a bad rap in a lot of corporate boardrooms, I think. If GP3 is a runaway success like GP2 was, "sims" may become VERY much in demand in the boardrooms of game publishers, and that means more sims for us in the future. I hope the West brothers take their physics notes from GPL, and their accessibility/fun/functionality notes from GP3. Way to go, Mr. Crammond -- regardless of what I might have said before, having seen the end result, I'm now a believer. -- JB In article <8lia7c$pqq$[email hidden]>, "GraDee" <[email hidden]> wrote: > ...that is doesn't live up to the so called "hype". > > To anyone who has said they are disappointed because the game doesn'thave > everything that it was hyped up to have kindly tell me where they getthese > ideas? > > Hasbro released a press release some time last year showing that GP3was > officially coming. ...that is doesn't live up to the so called "hype". To anyone who has said they are disappointed because the game doesn't have everything that it was hyped up to have kindly tell me where they get these ideas? Hasbro released a press release some time last year showing that GP3 was officially coming. It was clamed to be finished many other times since 1997 yet only in late 1999 was it ever said that it was even in existence. It promised an update of GP2, taking advantage of 3DFX and updating it to a more modern season than 1994. That was accompanied by 5 screenshots, you know those incar of a Ferrari and the outside shots of the arrows. Thats it, thats all we were ever promised. People took wish lists and unreachable targets for GP3 and some how almost believed that GC or Hasbro promised this. Now, the main complaint of GP2 was the lack of weather. GC responds by giving us the most advanced weather effects ever in any sort of sim. People complain of no FF. FF is added! People complain of no internet play so although GC hasn't had time to perfect it has made things a lot better than the original play of only 4 players through a LAN. These weren't even promised yet are included and are taken for granted. Hasbro haven't even advertised much, apart from the press release we had a few ads in Autosport and that was about it. There was no hype and no promises by Hasbro. It was all in the minds of people. The unreachable targets set in wish lists seemed real to some. All I'm saying is that GP3 is much more than we were ever promised if you look at the facts. Can anyone actually show me where this so-called hype is/was? Hasbro certainly kept their mouths shut.

Weren't you the one declaring GP3 "inferior" a few days ago based on some of the early so called "reviews"? :-) JoH

They weren't unreachable targets... they just were not Crammond's targets. He opted to rest on his laurels and make a small stab at finishing GP2 instead of delivering a new product. Apparently Crammond hasn't bothered to do any research or learn any new programming skills. People just expected that Crammond's past accomplishments would lead to even more and greater things. I think Crammond was spoiled by his success and has grown lazy or just a damn recluse that doesn't know what has happened in the real world over the last 4 years. % People complain of no internet play so although GC hasn't had time to % perfect it has made things a lot better than the original play of only 4 % players through a LAN. Proper LAN and Internet play would have required something that Crammond did not want to do..... Re-write the core code of GP3 using "new" techniques and processes. He didn't want to do this, thus we were fed a pack of lies about their license not allowing Internet play. % Can anyone actually show me where this so-called hype is/was? % Hasbro certainly kept their mouths shut. Why would they kill the goose that was laying the golden egg? Keep mum and let the dreamers sell your product. By keeping quite, they supported the hype being built by the fans for GP3. Hasbro did their best to make sure that the truth was not known about their product. -- **************************** Michael E.
