GP3 cockpit without driver arms and early hands-on report

Posters discussed the lack of driver arms in GP3's cockpit view, with many noting that fast GPL drivers turn the arms off anyway. An Italian poster who played GP3 at a distributor event in Milan reported seeing the final CD, around 21 frames per second on a Pentium III 600, and only LAN multiplayer rather than internet play. Others compared frame rates and hoped for better network play than in GP2.

Flipping is just an overall term by some ignorant mass who want to say they want correct and accurate physics. They just can't say it another way. "Flipping is kewl" in their minds. GP3 has no arms? No problem with that, I consider this a development choice more than an omission. It would had been more obstructive than in GPL considering the number of information the cockpit has. -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... -- http://www.WeRace.net -- People think it must be fun to be a super genius, but they don't realise how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world.

Did they have 30 pc's networked? Or any display of a networked race? At 21.3 fps, did it have that slow-mo effect? Thank you for taking questions! :-) Jason. [email hidden] wrote:

Yesterday I played gp3 in Milan at gp3day organized by leader, the italian distributor. Well what can I say.. there won't be any delay since I saw the final cd so.. be prepared to see it on the shelves on july 28th!!! The machine specs were ..pentiumIII 600 128mb ram and an asus 3800 video card (tnt2) The game in 1024x768 with everything on had 21.3fps and I really didn't expect such a good performance. There were 30 pc with a microsoft force feedback wheel on each place. I was really impressed by the wet race..really...I couldn't believe it. Any question ? I'm here to answer them. It's quite obvious that there is a lot of fast drivers who race with the arms in GPL. Because with your own deduction it would also mean that the replier also makes it up as he goes along, and of course it's false we all know there is talent on both side of the equation. While driving I need a high fps count, so I reduce the image quality and drawn objects. But during the replay lower fps are not a problem, so I have to increase the parameters again. Papy, let us save two (2) sets of parameters, one used for driving and one used for replays. l8er ronny -- |\ _,,,---,,_ I want to die like my Grandfather, ZZZzz /,`.-'`' -. ;-;;,_ in his sleep. |,4- ) )-,_. ,\ ( `'-' Not like the people in his car, '---''(_/--' `-'\_) screaming their heads off!

In the past, World Circuit and Grand Prix 2 totally sucked via modem /network play. So it will be very interesting to see if there is any improvement in that department. -- [email hidden] <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8l9435$20s$[email hidden]... > In article <[email hidden]>, > Jason Monds <[email hidden]> wrote: > > Did they have 30 pc's networked? Not very good I'm afraid. It would have been interesting to see it in 640x480 just to see if it's necessary to upgrade from a 400 Mhz even to run it on the smallest res. Other than that, I must say that it really looks weird not having arms with that wheel after GPL. Feels like Darth Vader mindcontrolling the car. Guess I'll get used to it though...

Someone recently explained some technical reasons for the apparently slow frame-rate, and pointed out that those low numbers were not equivilant to the same numbers in GPL, for example. I am encouraged by the comments in this series, however, because there has been some shooting-from-the-hip negative comment in the NG which made me wonder if Crammond had only gussied up GP2. (**** I HAVE NEVER SEEN GP2, AND IF YOU WANT TO SELL YOUR COPY AND RELATED MANUAL, PAPERWORK, etc, please let me know. I would love to have it and haven't been able to find a copy.!!**** ) Am I STILL the only one who has heard it won't be out until Aug 23rd??
