Re: French stolen GPL tracks site discontinued??

Flame warFrench Pits takedown and an anti-French remark

The closure of the French Pits site led one poster to make a remark about the French, which drew objections from French readers, and he apologised. Ironic stories by m.seery and A Thomas about French hospitality were misread as insults, which led to name-calling with a troll before things were cleared up. The tracks were confirmed to be gone from the site.

The French do tend to get a bad reputation with people thinking they're all rude and arrogant . I've travelled a lot in France , both in summer and also skiing in the Tarentaise region many times . Obviously I've met the odd rude , arrogant pig , EVERY country has them . We have plenty in the UK . However , I've also met a lot of friendly , generous French people . It seems that too many people make assumptions about the French based on one bad experience . Wishing that British women spoke with a sexy French accent Andrew

National slights aside, the tracks are gone. There's also a "Click here" to mail to several addresses, apparently in support of restoring the stolen converted tracks to the site. I would assume that the site owner got some e-mail himself...8^)... Good to see Mr. Noonan's work on behalf of GPL racers being restored to his ownership. You may call me stupid, but I don't see what's wrong with publishing those tracks. Those nice French guys even mentioned the sites where they found the data. In my opinion, it much worse to ask money for programs that manipulate commercial software without the approval of the publishers of that software. Everything should be freeware that should be distributed free (something like the track database at zap.to/gp2). If mr. Noonan wants to make money, he should write his own racing sim from scratch. Anyway, I'm happy that I was just in time to find those tracks united instead of searching the Net for hours. I had a terrible time in France as a student many years ago. I had a summer job as a truckers mate, delivering conservatory kits to French customers. Everywhere we stopped these arrogant nasty people insisted that we sit down and sink a bottle of house red with them. If they were particularly bad, they insisted on plying us with bread rolls and brie at the same time. One guy even had the audacity to stick a bottle of scotch in my hand and introduce me to his daughter (who was coming to live in England as a language student) at one stop. The worst part of it was that as the non driver, I had to assume full responsibility for consuming this liquid after the second drop of the day. Terrible experience, terrible people!!! I've been over here for over 20 years now and always look forward to local hospitality on the odd occasion that I am able to get home. The Brits are decent enought people. There is good and bad everywhere after all. I guess the reserve is a legacy from colonial times when the oppressed did not dare complain and the priveleged had to be seen to make an example with the stiff upper lip. I can't tolerate your stupid behaviour. You just act like the racists people: One guy and one experience means for them that all the others are the same. If you have a bad experience, it doesn't mean that all the French are like your guys. Just think about it. A lot of people around the world love France and every summer, a tons of tourists go in France, one of the most visited country in the world. It's not randomly. Yes, Sebastien, i agree with you. I'm french too and sometimes, it's difficult to understand some posts and to tell exactly what we want. This post was ironic but some of us didn't see that. Mark , I've just spent the last 10-15mins reading all the unread posts in this thread laughing my head off. To think that the two of us were actually complimenting the French and that stupid Drongo lowlife got it so wrong is amazing . If a person's English is not very good then it's understandable if they missed the irony/humour of your post but that sewer dweller was way off the mark . What a fabulous thread . We do have a laugh on this NG . BTW I like your line in self defence Mark . You must have a tongue like a serpent :-) Notice the smiley everyone . I wasn't really insulting him . Lesson no. 253 in British/Irish humour . Got to go , I planned to get some training in on the bike tonight Andrew m.seery <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:pofd5.234$[email hidden]...

Kinda makes you feel sorry that life is not fair. There are many like this guy who suffered a pre-birth full frontal labotomy. Drongo got a really bad deal. They left his obnoxious gland in place so there really is no hope for him in the sympathy department. > If a person's English is > not very good then it's understandable if they missed the irony/humour of > your post. Absolutely. That is the reason that I retracted my remarks to Erwan when that became apparent. > but that sewer dweller was way off the mark . What a fabulous > thread .
