I followed the install instructions precisely. Disconnected my sound
card, rebooted, and ran Testport. As it's supposed to, it indicated no
gameport detected. So far, so good. Shut the computer down and installed
the L4 in the ISA slot. Rebooted and ran Testport again. Of course it
indicated Legacy Mode OK, test digital mode Board ID, yada, yada, yada.
Sound card's still uninstalled, Testport detected the L4 like it's
supposed to and I then installed the L4 setup program and drivers per
the instructions. Rebooted, again without the sound card. Everything's
still peachy. Shut down and installed the sound card. Of couse Win98
wants to install the sound card and it does. After it installs, Game
Controllers setup gives me "Not Connected" for my controller. Testport
also indicates No Gameport Found. I then disabled the sound card's
gameport within Device Manager. I was then able to go back in Game
Controllers on the Control Panel and it gave me OK. Kewl, the
controller's detected again. Later on when I rebooted, it was
indicating again "Not Connected". Then I deleted the sound card's entry
with device manager. Again, went back to Game Controllers within control
panel and it's back to OK. Rebooted later and, you guessed it, "Not
Connected". Everytime I reboot it indicates there's no controller
attached with NOT CONNECTED. Any ideas?
Thanks
It's actually a simple problem, and one that missed the instructions
unfortunately.
What you have to do is calibrate your wheel while the soundcard is still not
installed. In other words... install the L4 as per instructions, reboot
without SC installed... calibrate your wheel... THEN install the soundcard.
That should solve it.
For the record this is a MS Registry bug ;)

Really? I was able to fix it just by disabling the joystick port on my SBLive
in Device Manager. I guess I got lucky...

Yes I am and I have a TSW2. I created a custom controller when I loaded the
card and software, and no, it didn't help.

Been there, done that...no effect....it works initially but when I reboot it
goes back to the dreaded "Not Connected" message

I'll try this option...what I've done in the meantime and it's working is I
went into Device Manager and changed the Input/Output Range on
the old gamecard to something other that 0201.
