Off-topic Euro 2000 football banter

A drunken celebration of England's 1-0 win over Germany at Euro 2000 led to banter between English, Dutch, French and Norwegian members, criticism of England's hooligans and complaints that the group should stay on topic. There were brief mentions of Schumacher's Canadian GP win and Jos Verstappen's drive.

Well, your head is not thinking right then to put up for some stupid hooligans from the UK...all news of the last days is about them....all other countrys walk along very well. So instead of being happy of 1-0 think about that...i hope the Uefa will pull England out of the tournament when there own govermant can't handle there supporters. Take an example of the Germans..they at least gave out a big list while the english goverment (which is really crap now in my opinion) gave only a few names who could not come into Holland and belgium. Oh, oh just wait and see.............when FRANCE (the best team in the world since 1998 and until a long long time) will destroy every others teams and win the Euro 2000 championship. (It will be the first time a country win a World cup and an Euro just after). Be afraid all of you, England, Italy, Turkey, Holland, etc........your last game will be after the confrontation vs France. Every country has HIS sport: USA are the best in basketball (my favourite sport :-) !! ) Chineese are the best in Ping Pong, German are some great F1 drivers, Canada is good in Hockey, but France is the best in Football, sorry guys !!!!!!!!!!! Please don't tar and feather all British football supporters with the same brush. We are not all hooligans and as ever, we have to suffer the consequences of the actions instigated by the scum of our islands. These people are not football fans or sporting fans of any description. They are the same people who cause terror at British beaches on bank holidays, disgrace themselves in drunken stupors at every holiday resort in Europe and even on occasion, have caused disturbing scenes at the British GP. To the good people of Belgium, Germany and Turkey, I humbly apologise for the actions of these British sub-humans who masquerade as football supporters. It's just that we have had years of the BRITISH hooligan disease being discussed on TV/Radio when it has been 100% English ! ( OK, that is because we're not good enough to ge on any internation competitions for now !! :-) Peter PS: The Wmbley turf is doing well beside the piece of Hampden and Murrayfield :-) We ARE fair you know !!!!

ACTUALLY... I am an IRISHMAN born and bred in Dublin. As such, I am not British at all. I was holding out the olive branch on account of the fact that England has been my home for the last 22 years. BTW. how many of you Scots have still got Wembley turf growing in your living rooms as a substitute for carpet? Sorry but it was our 2nd team without Zidane, Anelka, Henry, Barthez, etc.............. If Holland play without Kluivert and others team stars, i bet they don't win many games. P.S: This game was a no-game, because Holland wished to win in order to play in Holland and France "wished" to finish second in order to stay in their hotel in Belgium. Be afraid, and wait the next confrontation (this one will be "real") in the finale !!!!! Andre Warringa <[email hidden]> a crit dans le message : [email hidden]...

Be honest, did you expect them to lose from Holland? :) Surely the 'best team in the world since 1998' would win even without their star players? Does the French team really depend that much on a couple of star players? Andre

Barthez, Lizerazu, Zidane, Anelka, Henry, Deschamps, Blanc, Thuram, were all rested, and I'm sure I've forgotton some. Ah forget it, you'll soon see (I'm no Francophile, btw, but it seems daft of you to gloat over that particular win!) -- Colin Harris Remove "your knickers" to reply

I will be honest: yes, i expected that they lost because before the game, some french players said they were not motivated by this game because the result was not important and they prefer to stay in their Bruges' hotel and beat the Holland in the finale. After that, the journalist said: "what ?!? You don't matter to win this game ?" then Zidane said: "Euuuhhhh, no, no, we are professionnels, we play in order to win but........ this game is meanless". And like Colin said, it's not just a couple of stars but 80 % of the team. If you say that a team should win even if they missed some players, you are totally wrong because amputate some key players at all others Euro 2000 teams and you will see they will not play at the same level. Roumany play very well vs England but, without 5 stars of their team, they were ejected in 1/4 finals vs Italy 2-0. And, to come back one more time to this france-holland game, the France lead 2-1 and Dugarry had a BIG occasion to score in the first half but he thinked he was offside and he missed the goal. At 3-1, it would be not the same game. Just wait and see................. hey, Colin, you know very well our team :-) !!!!! I think France in 2000 is even better that the 98 World Champion team. The 98's team had a very strong defense but a weak offense. To give a grade to them, i will give 95% in defense and 60% in offense. This year, i will give a 88% in defense but a 92% in offense. The duo Anelka-Henry is terrific !!!!!! And they are still very young. In the 2002 World Cup, they will be awesome.
