It is a great wheel.

The reason for my question: I had an analog Thrustmaster Nascar Pro that I
really liked despite the frequent spring changes. Anyway, after about two
years of use the cable connecting the wheel with the computer has gone bad.
If you hold the cable bent in the right position the computer will recognize
the wheel, otherwise it just shows "not connected" on the game controllers
screen. When I upgraded my joystick from an analog to a digital (and USB)
unit, I noticed that on the test page, there wasn't any "flicker" in the
setting of the joystick.
The questions: If I changed to a digital wheel, would I also get rid of the
"flicker" ? (and have better throttle and steering control and finally
survive a lap at the ring...hey I have to blame something, I mean it can't
be my driving ability) Would I notice the same/any improvement just going
to a USB device? What are the digital wheels out there?
As always, the help I get from this newsgroup is most appreciated.
David
I got a Saitek R4 digital wheel. I really like it cos it`s shaped like an F1
wheel with paddles and gear lever options. When I set it up in windows it
does flicker unfortunately, even when calibrating in a game (gpl or
whatever) when pressing the brake pedal the calibration bar will flicker so
I find I have to press it down hard so it will register the max setting.
Have had a lot of probs in F1 2000 especially when braking and gearing down
for a sharp corner quickly, it will often spike to one side so I have to set
the deadzone pretty high to try to eliminate this. It has 3 switch settings
one of which is analogue and is usually more stable in it although you don`t
get the benefit of feathering of speed by braking with the hammer all the
way down which is obviously useful.
I dont know what other people experience with their hardware but would be
keen to hear for sure. Anyway theres one opinion for you.
Snake.

I have a Micorsoft Precision Racing Wheel (USB) and I don't get any
spiking or flickering.

Hi David,
I've read good things about how smooth the MadCatz Andretti wheel is, so I
bought one from a guy on Ebay (haven't tried it but should be getting it any
day now...)
you can check it out:
http://www.andrettiwheel.com/
and the review was at:
http://www.mpog.com
good luck,
Andrew
