Logitech wheel force feedback under Windows 2000

A user could not get Logitech Wingman Force Feedback working properly in Windows 2000. Others confirmed that the built-in drivers lacked full force feedback support and argued about whether gamers should switch to Windows 2000. Logitech replied that a beta with Windows 2000 drivers was due in mid-May. Tips were also shared for running GPL and TOCA2 on Windows 2000.

where have you heard that the logitech win2k software is close to being released - this would really make my day :)) "D. \"Dents\" Hopkins" wrote:

I can't get proper force feedback in win2k at all - I have the logitech FF wheel (sweeet) and; Yes i get forces in the test screen, Yes the power actually works, Yes the two green lights work I'm running Windows 2000 Advanced Server All my other system Specs are at http://home1.stofanet.dk/frenjon Ok here is my test... I'll now try the new EA F1-2000 with the wheel: setup->controls everything is setup to use a Game controller and Force Feedback On to the game.. in the game I try and drive off the course -> no FF whatsoever - the wheel has no auto center and nothing happens when i slam into walls ect... Next game up is the old, but still kewl Colin Mcrae rally. Dooh - just found another game that won't run under win2000 :( Ok then I'll try Rally Championship 2000 New game, should work.... No FF at all - kewl game though - can't wait until i actually get FF in it :) Next up we have the completely new game Rally Masters from Infogrames..... When I bump into something VERY hard the wheel makes a small sign of FF but still no auto centering or any shaking when i drive on grass ect. Next game up is the best FF game I've ever had Official Formula 1 Racing 98 - old, but still great :(( - just found another game that won't run in win2k Next game I have is Toca 2 - Touring Cars WOW finally some auto centering (way to much, but it was there:), but no other FF signs. Last game I have that could use FF is battle zone II Hard to set up but it has small signs of Force Feedback when I like in rally masters bumb into something Here are all the things in registry that has the word wingman... ------ Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\LwUsbHid] "Type"=dword:00000001 "Start"=dword:00000003 "ErrorControl"=dword:00000001 "ImagePath"=hex(2):53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,44,00,\ 52,00,49,00,56,00,45,00,52,00,53,00,5c,00,4c,00,77,00,55,00,73,00,62,00,48,\ 00,69,00,64,00,2e,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,00,00 "DisplayName"="Logitech WingMan Formula Force USB" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\LwUsbHid\Security] "Security"=hex:01,00,14,80,a0,00,00,00,ac,00,00,00,14,00,00,00,30,00,00,00,02,\ 00,1c,00,01,00,00,00,02,80,14,00,ff,01,0f,00,01,01,00,00,00,00,00,01,00,00,\ 00,00,02,00,70,00,04,00,00,00,00,00,18,00,fd,01,02,00,01,01,00,00,00,00,00,\ 05,12,00,00,00,74,00,6c,00,00,00,1c,00,ff,01,0f,00,01,02,00,00,00,00,00,05,\ 20,00,00,00,20,02,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,18,00,8d,01,02,00,01,01,00,00,00,\ 00,00,05,0b,00,00,00,20,02,00,00,00,00,1c,00,fd,01,02,00,01,02,00,00,00,00,\ 00,05,20,00,00,00,23,02,00,00,00,00,00,00,01,01,00,00,00,00,00,05,12,00,00,\ 00,01,01,00,00,00,00,00,05,12,00,00,00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\LwUsbHid\Enum] "0"="USB\\Vid_046d&Pid_c291\\5&b114931&0&2" "Count"=dword:00000001 "NextInstance"=dword:00000001 ----------- Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{745A17A0-74D3-11D0-B6FE-00A0C90F57DA}\0002] "DevLoader"="*ntkern" "NTMPDriver"="LwUsbHid.sys" "DriverDesc"="Logitech WingMan Formula Force USB" "InfPath"="lwusbhid.inf" "InfSection"="LwJoy.RallyForce" "InfSectionExt"=".NT" "ProviderName"="Logitech" "DriverDateData"=hex:00,00,19,62,20,1c,bf,01 "DriverDate"="10-22-1999" "DriverVersion"="5.0.2160.1" "MatchingDeviceId"="usb\\vid_046d&pid_c291" ---------- Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\USB\Vid_046d&Pid_c291\5&b114931&0&2] "DeviceDesc"="Logitech WingMan Formula Force USB" "LocationInformation"="WingMan Formula Force" "Capabilities"=dword:00000084 "HardwareID"=hex(7):55,00,53,00,42,00,5c,00,56,00,69,00,64,00,5f,00,30,00,34,\ 00,36,00,64,00,26,00,50,00,69,00,64,00,5f,00,63,00,32,00,39,00,31,00,26,00,\ 52,00,65,00,76,00,5f,00,30,00,31,00,30,00,30,00,00,00,55,00,53,00,42,00,5c,\ 00,56,00,69,00,64,00,5f,00,30,00,34,00,36,00,64,00,26,00,50,00,69,00,64,00,\ 5f,00,63,00,32,00,39,00,31,00,00,00,00,00 "CompatibleIDs"=hex(7):55,00,53,00,42,00,5c,00,43,00,6c,00,61,00,73,00,73,00,\ 5f,00,66,00,66,00,26,00,53,00,75,00,62,00,43,00,6c,00,61,00,73,00,73,00,5f,\ 00,66,00,66,00,26,00,50,00,72,00,6f,00,74,00,5f,00,66,00,66,00,00,00,55,00,\ 53,00,42,00,5c,00,43,00,6c,00,61,00,73,00,73,00,5f,00,66,00,66,00,26,00,53,\ 00,75,00,62,00,43,00,6c,00,61,00,73,00,73,00,5f,00,66,00,66,00,00,00,55,00,\ 53,00,42,00,5c,00,43,00,6c,00,61,00,73,00,73,00,5f,00,66,00,66,00,00,00,00,\ 00 "ClassGUID"="{745A17A0-74D3-11D0-B6FE-00A0C90F57DA}" "Class"="HIDClass" "Driver"="{745A17A0-74D3-11D0-B6FE-00A0C90F57DA}\\0002" "Mfg"="Logitech" "Service"="LwUsbHid" "ConfigFlags"=dword:00000000 "ParentIdPrefix"="6&7a9b7e9&0" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\USB\Vid_046d&Pid_c291\5&b114931&0&2\Device Parameters] "SymbolicName"="\\??\\USB#Vid_046d&Pid_c291#5&b114931&0&2#{a5dcbf10-6530-11d2-901f-00c04fb951ed}" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\USB\Vid_046d&Pid_c291\5&b114931&0&2\LogConf] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\USB\Vid_046d&Pid_c291\5&b114931&0&2\Control] "DeviceReference"=dword:8170fd70 "ActiveService"="LwUsbHid" Am I doing something wrong here or what? This is a load of hooey! Win2k comes with drivers for the LWFF built in.... The only problem is MS decided to only support their version of force feedback "out of the box". The new driver for the LWFF (with force) is very very near release. From what I hear, it was nearly released this week, so it wont be long now. Games with Win2k. You're sorely mistaken... There are very few games that do NOT run under Win2k. F1 2000 runs perfectly... as well as GPL, RC2000, Motocross Madness, Midtown Madness (with force as well), and many many more race sims. I've got a dual system, and some games even run in SMP. You cant do that with win9x. I wont even mention the improved system stability & ram optimization. Dents. And what's the use of racingsims when your wheel isn't working properly? > I've got a dual system, and some games even run in SMP. You cant do that > with win9x. Hi, I am currently dual booting 98 and 2000. Do you find that GPL and F1 2000 run faster under 2000? I haven't tried as I also have a LWFF. I am possibly upgrading my machine and I'm wondering if it is worth going for a dual proc? Cheers, Scott

My WingMan Formula (black, gameport) didn't work properly with the WingMan drivers on the Win 2k CD. :-( > Games with Win2k. You're sorely mistaken... I found F1RS ran *better* with Win 2k than with 95/98! :-) TOCA 2 also works fine. Actually, I couldn't get GPL to work. The installer moaned about wininet.dll (or somesuch) and when I tried to run the game, it failed. Oh, and my WingMan was just too iffy with Win 2000... SCGT, F1RS and TOCA2 all had 'issues' with the game, mainly with respect to steering. -- Richard. "Michelle, ma belle. These are words that go together well, my Michelle."

I just got this reply on the winmanteam BBS -------- Thanks for the detailed mail with list of games you are playing ...etc.... We will have a beta on our site in mid-May. It will have updated Win2000 drivers and custom control panel support. -------- So I guess we have to wait 1 month more MAX :( Jonas Mellquist wrote:

How did you get Toca2 working? I can't get the setup program to recognise my Voodoo2 card, and the old millenium in the machine isn't useable with Toca2. The Voodoo2 card definitely works as I have Quake2 and other stuff running fine. A.

Not necessarily... I installed the 3DFX patch, and play GPL under Glide in Win2k with my old Voodoo 1 board. Dents. "Iain Mackenzie" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:atSM4.1154$[email hidden]...

yeah.. but when he shouts "This is a load of hooey!" then I can't really see that as a nice way of saying "I don't agree".... Brett C. Cammack <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Sorry, I meant the Glide patch! Iain D. "Dents" Hopkins <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:EtTM4.67030$[email hidden]... > Not necessarily... I installed the 3DFX patch, and play GPL under Glidein

I did that, but the game just crashed at the loading banner. :-( A shame, because I did want to keep 2k. What is wininet.dll anyway? Why is GPL so interested? -- Richard. TOCA2 can't recognise cards properly in 2k. The fix is to use regedit to change TOCA2's "CardHintIndex" to, erm, 1 or 0. I can't remember at the moment, and I don't have the info handy. http://www.ntcompatible.com outlines the procedure (in Games->TOCA2). -- Richard. "She's in love with me and I feel fine, mmm, mmm."

I've just tried this. It says to set it to 0 (from FFFFFF) but I then just get a message that says that my graphics card doesn't support a z-buffer. I assume it is still trying to use my old Millenium. Spence

Ah. > I assume it is still trying to use my old Millenium. Yes, it will. Try '1', '2', '3' etc. until it works. -- Richard. "This happened once before, when I came to your door, no reply."
