I don't remember them having Shift-R after smashing headlong into the
Spa wall, either :-)

Beware, though, that the utilities that ship with the controller cause huge
drops in system performance, according to some. The "force" feedback is
also not a worthwhile addition in this small controller. However, having
used the previous, non-FF version of the Interact controller, I love them,
and the ergonomics of the new one seem better. I would buy it and forget
the FF aspect.

Congrats. I got it in January too, and got under 1:30 for the first
time this weekend. Came right out of the blue (7th lap of an 11 lap
race). Isn't it a great feeling? Mind you, in my case I was left
wondering how less fuel makes *me* slower!

Third place is my best finish. I actually led a race once in Spa after
a pile-up at turn 1, but it went to my head and I ran over someone at
the Masta kink.

OK, now I feel crap again. A decent wheel/pedal setup (like mine)
would surely make you a lot quicker. The weakest link in my setup is
(sadly) the guy-who's-beginning-to-accept-he's-not-the-new-Senna at the
wheel.
Thanks to everyone who offered tips on this group btw. I found
switching tracks and cars helps a lot. I amazed myself by taking
1.5sec off my PB at Spa by switching from a Lotus to an Eagle
(3:22.86). A case of a change being better than a rest I think. It
was a great weekend!

Before you buy.
Congrats!! Its certianly a great feelig isnt it? And from my experiance after
you get that first 1:29 running that consistantly isnt too far off.
Chris
BTW- I've been running GPL since it was released and I still get excited about
a second place finish so thats definately something to be proud of too.
After about five months with GPL this morning I finally got
below 1:30 at Monza during practice for a novice race. I would
have won the race aswell had it not been for me going wide a
couple of times coming out of the second Lesmo. Anyway second
place is my best yet in a F1 race and I'm happy enough with my
1:29.88.
My controller, MS Sidewinder Precision Pro Joystick, I use the
fire buttons for Gas/Brake as I can't drive using the
forward/back motion for these functions.

Congratulations Chris! I am eagerly awaiting breaking through the 1.30 mark.
I have a PB of 1.30.1 After only about eight months! :-)

It's something of a relief to find I'm not the only one not running 1:27.xxx
yet ;-)
I still have break 1:30 myself. I just wish I had more time to hack away at
my times. They keep coming down, but every 0.5 second needs quite a
substantial investment of time . . .
You're South African, right?
I live in Cape Town - I wonder how many S.A. GPL'ers could be found so that
we could start an online multiplay session. Do any of them read this
newsgroup?

Hmm.. you're making things veeeery difficult for yourself using fire
buttons to accelerate and decelerate. You've essentailly no control
over how MUCH you accelerate and decelerate. If you can get yourself a
decent controlled for brakes and throttle you'll find a world of
difference. (A cheap option might be an extra joystick, I'm told some
people race successfully like this).

How about a wheel. I can't believe some of you are using a joystick - some
of the same ones who ONLY want to play a TRUE sim. I will have to check, but
I don't think the cars in 1967 were equipped with joysticks.

If you
can't "feather" the gas and brake you'll go into or come out of corners
faster than the guys with the pedals. CH products has a nice set of pedals
you can add to your joystick.

Interact is now making a pistol grip car controler called the FX. Looks and
works a bit like an R/C car radio, plus, get this, the wheel is force
feedback! The first review I've seen of it says the FF really works too.
Dirt cheap to boot.

I would be interested in having an on-line race, Maybe we could
do a race as a test and try and find some more racers somehow.
