Isn't there a gamma slider in the Display settings. SCGT had one and I
swear I saw it in F1-2000 too.

In the players setting (*.ply) file their is a value for gamma setting
have a fiddle, or try the the brightness on the monitor it's a small
reason to shelve a great game.

OK thanks I'll certainly check it out. FWIW, I am honestly going to
try to get the game going to my liking. Which means I will work
very hard at it for a week. I wasn't going to give it a 2 hour
run and return it...
If there is a gamma setting in that file, that would be great. My
monitor is already at the max brightness. I definately will not
change my display setting gamma as I think this is something
the game should allow you to adjust. I don't want to fiddle with
that all the time...
Thanks again.

At first I really liked F1 2000. Body parts in the middle of the
road and everything. Pretty cool. The "driving model" seemed
way better than SCGT to me. But there are 2 main problems
I have with the game.
1) It is way too dark. Surprisingly it was even darker when I
tried using my 16MB TNT card. I am not going to fiddle
with my system gamma and this is a definite game buster
for me.
2) If you are in the driving line the AI will totally run you over. It
seems that they are not aware of the human controlled car
at all. Simply moving out of the groove will prevent about 100%
of this problem.
A third problem which is not that big of a deal is the Forcefeedback
is absolutely terrible. But that was not a game breaker for me. If
they patch for the 2 above problems I will definitely repurchase
the game. The way it is now, I cannot even play the game enjoyably.
I liked the incar radio, and found the framerate totally acceptable.
I played at 640x480 and only 6 cars were drawn. I have a full field
and the mirrors were on, but all other mirror options were off. I was
even OK with the sound (YIKES!).
Hopefully the 2 above issues will get fixed in a patch.

Hopefully the 2 above issues will get fixed in a patch.

I believe that there is a gamma setting option in the player file- just
looked over the file a few minutes ago. If so, you could likely simply edit
that.

qualifying lap at Monaco in which a computer controlled car didn't crash

but it's just a little 'on-off' sort of thing. I'll check it out at home
tonight.

I am so bad at the game so far that they just plain walk
away from me :-)

Yes. Somethimes I have no problems at all and the AI pass
without problems. It seems to happen less as I get more used
to the game. But the cone is probably very small, as most of
the wrecks O have with the AI is when we are side by side.

Quick question: If you are ahead, then the AI is behind you. Isn't
your question like a double negative?

Why so bright? My monitors digital controls go up to 255, and I'm
running my brightness at 82. Seems fine to me - maybe it's the contrast
that's screwing you up...

I saw in the .PLR file there's an entry for gamma correction under the Game
Options section. Haven't messed with it to see if it does what would seem
logical, but you may want to give it a try to see if it works for you.

Hehe, perhaps you can modify the 'Opponent strength' to something less

But probably they'll just start braking before even starting the car

that way.

Yes at 70% I can walk trough the field. It just took a little
while getting used to the game.
