I've been away from r.a.s for a while, so forgive me if this is a common discussion. I have and enjoy GP2, but I would like an F1 sim with 3D acceleration and weather. Does F1RS have these features? I don't see any discussions on F1RS, but. I've lurked for a while and noticed that GP2 still seems to be the F1 sim of choice. If it's still the best, I'll keep it and enjoy it. I also found the Grandprix2.com history project. I got chills at the thought of running laps against Mario and Nikki. That will probably keep me busy for a long time. Is there any support of this type for any of the other F1 sims? Billy Moore

Get MGPRS2, the sequal to F1RS. It is a very nice sim but still falls a bit short of the GPL physics model. It does have a nice career mode, season mode and all sorts of variable weather. Fun racing from a overcast dry day into a pouring ran, effects are really nice. D3D and Glide supported and can probably be had on the cheap right now. Ubisoft lost out on F1 license agreement but there are several sites that have updated the game with 99/00 cars/tracks...Ubisoft did include a simple updating application with the game for just this reason...NICE THINKING. Anyway, if you need it now that is what I would go with, AI is pretty good too...none of this NASCAR AI bullshit. If you can wait - well then GP3 (btw has been pushed back to begining of July.) http://www.the-unofficial.com/ is a top source for MGP-RS2 Billy Moore <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:8a732n$lh3$[email hidden]...

Cna't help but agree. Gp2 is very very forgiving to drive and it's well- not easy- but not hard to be consistent. MGPRS2 has a much more "knife-edge" feel to it. When you *push* a lap, it feels like you're giving it your all... which is why i like it - Great 3D support, 3D sound & with new car sets+ FF, it's a winner. Z. Please remove my_pants when replying.

I won't say a word about them Ubisoft game... but If you are in the absolute need for a Formula 1 game that is focused on simulation, then I unfortunately have to say "get MGPRS2", even if I shouldn't say that. Heresy LOL. It's just that Gp2 is so versatile and the gameplay is still there after all the years, with almost 1000tracks, carsets for each year with car data, etc.. Seriously, just wait a couple of months. Not even 3months. You'll have F1 2000 that will be released by EA Sport. Even if it's not GPL nor Gp3, it will be better than MGPRS2. Ubisoft It's not that hard to beat ;-D Oops, sorry for that ;) -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- May the Downforce be with you... -- http://www.WeRace.net -- People think it must be fun to be a super genius, but they don't realise how hard it is to put up with all the idiots in the world.

Yes, F1RS does have these features. But the racing and driving experience in GP2 still beats it IMHO. Still, I guess both have their good and bad points. The engine and wheel spin model of F1RS does seem to be a bit artificial, as are the spins. But the driving feel under 'normal' conditions is really good, especially in faster corners. GP2 seems to be a bit unforgiving in the tyre model, as they tend to let go quite suddenly mking catching the car before it spins a real difficulty, and this transition is probably better modeled in F1RS, although it may be just as difficult in the real life (otherwise F1 drivers would never spin). If you can get F1RS cheap, it shouldn't be missed. I still play both from time to time, but GP2 does give me more of the being there feel.

GP2 forgiving? Please tell me you use traction control or steering help. I use only autoshift and I think the cars are very UNforgiving. I like what everyone says about MGPRS2, but if it's harder to drive than GP2 with no aids, I may say thanks, but no thanks. Billy

If you want weather effects, then I would go with MGPR2, the updated version of F1RS. People said to wait for F1-2000, it won't have weather in it. I just recently purchased GP2 off of e-bay. I know I'll get slammed for this but... I just can't get into it. Maybe if I bought it 4-5 years ago, then it might be alright. True you can customize it in may ways, but driving...I'll pass. I feel MGPR2 is alot better than GP2. Which one is best will always be debateable, just like the debate over Quake3 and Unreal Tournament over in another newsgroup. MGPRS2 is definately easier to drive than no-helps GP2, IMO. Vehicle response is more consistent. Also slightly more forgiving in the "got it/ain't got it" department. GPL remains king for exploring the edges of the envelope (and living to tell ;-)) though. Jan. ----
