I don't know if anybody else noticed this, but I found a listing for a
driving game called "Hot Chix and Gear Stix" on the 3DFiles site. With
a name like that, I just had to download it -- and I was pleasantly
surprised. It's definitely NOT GPL, Viper Racing, or DTR, but it is a
WHOLE lot of fun. In fact, I haven't had this much fun since the DTR
demo (and the Viper Racing demo before that).
If you've ever found yourself enjoying NFS and such, this one is
definitely worth the 10 MB download -- I've been enjoying it more than
I ever enjoyed NFS, for that matter. The game tries to come off as a
funky, psychedelic '70s muscle car racer with "Cannonball Run"-type
"chix," but it REALLY has a "Dukes of Hazard" feel to it. There are
several jumps and shortcuts, and one off-road shortcut on the second
track just past the last tunnel has me grinning and yelling "yee-haw"
every time I take it (my wife has been more worried than usual as a
result <G>).
The game could be considered a bit sexist because of the "chix," but in
a "cartooney" kind of way -- kind of like "Speed Racer" meets
"Baywatch." Definitely not an "R" rating, but maybe a PG-13 (the
cartoon "chix" are fully-clothed, so it's really not all that bad).
At any rate, if you haven't checked it out and you have access to fast
download capabilites, you can grab the demo here:

Like I said, it's definitely worth the download if you're looking for a
little driving diversion. Don't expect greatness, of course, and keep
it in perspective. Possibly the best part is that this is an ultmate
low-budget game -- the demo download contains the full version, and you
can order the key to unlock the whole game for only $15 from the
developer/publisher Web site, which makes it a real bargain with no
wait.
Enjoy!
