I tested Buick engine on speedways and seems to pretty good (improved my
record in Phoenix and Michigan by 2 MPH), but how well it performs in
road/street courses? I quess the gear changes require bit learning and
the rmp limits for efficient changes are somewhat smaller. But how its
mid range torque compares to (for example) Chevy C. The file
eng_chas.txt available from several ftp sites says "more peak power
than other engines", but it doesn't say anything about mid range torque.
Has anyone tried to edit the calendar file to suit 94 season? I see no
reason why it shouldn't work. What are the dates of races for this
year? I have the ESPN94 schedule, but it doesn't have all the races.
Thanks in advance, Pasi.
Once you're used to red zone on the Buick/Menard engine, you WILL find it
works best to set high Best Laps at the rounder ovals. However, you will also
discover that the other engines are better suited for the road courses.
There is no problem at all in editing the Calendar file to suit the 1994 PPG
season exactly to the day. For our Online Series (ICRS), for instance,
because we started our competition three weeks before the release of the
expansion packs, we had to change the Calendar file to allow us to continue
the series we started (running the first 8 tracks) and then finish the season
with the new tracks. The races are not in proper chronological order, but the
sim stills runs fine. The only problem we ran into involved the updating of
the SEASON files for Championship mode... bu tthis won't affect you if you
start a Championship season AFTER you've installed your new tracks.
Adding the new tracks to your sim in the middle of a Championship season will
eventually render your SEASON files invalid. Just avoid this by starting a
new Championship season AFTER adding the tracks.
