What are some updated F1GP lap times? I have a file, but it's almost a year old now, and I suspect that the times are improved. Also, how are the records kept? Are they by computer timer or human timer? I find that at Mexico, during a race I can pull of (once) 1:09.887, where as in quallifing for that race, the best I could get was a 1:14.???. However, again if I quallify, but this time have a friend on a watch do the timing, I pull of 1:08's. Is this the same on all computers? Thanks Later, -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "....Canada, where the only thing colder then our beer is our women.." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is this the same on all computers? I think it is the same on all computers, well it is on mine. Can't remember exactly what times I did but I always seem to do a faster lap in the race than in qualifying. It might be because you have less fuel towards the end of the race as I don't seem to do faster laps until near the end. Otherwise it could just be just a programming error which seems more likely. -- Andy Yau BSc Hons Information Technology DeMontfort University - Leicester

I think he meant he got better times when he time the lap with a watch. And the reason for that is because differences in the equipments we have, some computers runs faster than others(or slower for that matter), and everyone would also run different frame rates etc... the program will try to adjust(for the lack of a better word) to the setup so that we can all get equal times. So you don't get better times if you have a faster comuter. As for runing faster laps in race than in qualifying, that has never happened to me. But you do get better lap times towards the end of the race, and that is because the race starts with full fuel load, the tank would be empty towards the end, lighter weight means you can go faster. Of course fresh *** helps too..... -Huan :)

Is this the same on all computers? Why are you using a watch to time your laps????? The game is timing the laps itself... If you are using a watch to time the laps, there is bound to be variations between computers, not to mention that you can't accurately see the exact time you are starting/finishing a lap. -TPP

I wanted a timing independent of the computer...as you can see I thought the computer was wrong (and it was) so how could I use the computer to test this? I agree...however I'm not spilting hairs here with the time. I'm talking like up to six seconds off when qualifying. Also, before someone mentioned the fuel thing. In the book, it states that the fuel you quallify with is more combustable then race fuel because effiency is not important. Also you use Qualifying tires...which are far and away better then 'D' compound. Also grouve? No. I usualyl spent 10-11 laps qualifying. On most tracks my quallifying times kick my race times (you can run a lighter setup too), but not in Mexico. As for the hardware differences...wouldn't the clock in the car be linked with the computer clock? It would only seem reasonable. Also the computer says..in this second what happend? The frame rate determines howmany pictures to show during that second. So hardware should not be a factor. Hopefully they will have this fixed in F1GP 2. What computer have you got ? I would be surprised if you did this time on a PC. My guess is that you have an Amiga in which case, yes, the times you can do are faster. My best Qualifying time on F1GP at Mexico is 1:12.34 and that IMO is very close to the track limit. We have a BBS league here in UK and one guy has been uploading times from his Amiga - he has put over 1 second on my time. Now he has a PC he can't get near it. :) >---------------------------------------------------------------------------- >"....Canada, where the only thing colder then our beer is our women.." >---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Really! :-) Regards, Louis Louis Carresi Fidonet : 2:441/86 or 2:441/85

Yes, I know what you mean about track limit. However, we (me and a friend) got playing with car setups and gears until we found the perfect (or as close as we could find) setup for out driving style. I run on a 386DX/40 16M of RAM, and 1M on the video card. I play with texture off so that I can have the frame rate at about 20.5ish and still get an average of only 80% processor occupation. A hint to beat 1:12's, on the back S's, don't follow the computers line. The car can actually be pushed a lot faster through them on a different line. I go through in such a way that you can go through them full throtle and just costing for a second at the enterence/exit of the 3rd gear "S" and part way through the 4th gear "s". Ahh, so you cut corners I take it. There are a number of courses where you can cut corners and get away with it. That can take 4-8 seconds off your lap times depending on how many and which corners you cut. Makes your times look great compared to computer cars, but you're only fooling yourself if that's what you're doing. -- ISSCO, University of Geneva | X400: S=afzal;OU=divsun;O=unige; 54 route des Acacias | PRMD=switch;ADMD=arcom;C=ch CH-1227 GENEVA (Switzerland) | UUCP: mcvax!cui!divsun.unige.ch!afzal Tel: +41/22/705 71 12 | FAX: +41/22/300 10 86 | http://issco_www.unige.ch/ ``I'm not artificially intelligent, I just work that way.''

No, I don't believe he is cutting corners, just using different lines there is more than one line through some corners ya know... -Huan :)

Where out of what I said did you get that I cut corners?????? All I said was that if you take a different LINE then the computer then you can go faster THROUGH the corners not ACROSSED the corners. What the heck would be the point in posting a time when I cut corners? My time is for Mexico, not for the Mexico the way I think it should be. If people cut corners, then claim to get a best lap, they're lying becuase there not racing the same course. All they are doing is using i.e Mexico, as some sort of rough guid as to where to go. Also I have seen people race Mexico and try to beat my times by cutting corners...never works here...other tracks yes (Germany big time) but not Mexico. In the future, please do not asume that I cheat, becuase I do not, and I will not. It's just not good sport.
