Need for Speed Underground 2 demo impressions

Members discussed the Need for Speed Underground 2 demo, describing good graphics and sound but arcade handling of little interest to sim fans. A side argument developed over Kyle Roberts's reluctance to install DirectX 9.0c, while cronik praised the game enthusiastically.

It's 350meg, too big for me, but I'm curious how good it is! rms
I have no sim, but it is fun, and good graphics, just hard to get my logi driving force pro and act labs pedals to work right. "rms" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:nt9gd.857$[email hidden]... > It's 350meg, too big for me, but I'm curious how good it is! > > rms >

I won't update DirectX until I buy a game that needs it. The demo most likely would have only been on my PC for a short time anyway. Kyle

I tried it last night. Great sound and cute graphics but not much for hardcore sim fans. "rms" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:nt9gd.857$[email hidden]... > It's 350meg, too big for me, but I'm curious how good it is! > > rms >
The last widespread problem with DirectX was what DX6 in 98'? Must be the "fool me once shame on you" deal. Or is that you in disguise Larry :) Mitch "Steve Simpson" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

You expected this game to be good for the hardcore? I hope not. Might be fun nevertheless. I'm not expecting much regarding the game being a good simulator, I know that going in. But the game might be fun to mess with for a bit. I got the demo but haven't installed it yet. Alanb
You expected this game to be good for the hardcore? No, I have played the previous NFS's I do like the car sound and wanted to see if there were any interesting graphic innovations. I'll expect to see it free with a pack of smokes at the local mini-mart soon. "Alan Bernardo" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:wqggd.328042$3l3.216939@attbi_s03...

Dude, calm down and install the latest directx... it isn't gonna blow up your system. :) Mike http://mikebeauchamp.com "Kyle Roberts" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:Njfgd.17579$[email hidden]...

Wonderful! Visually it's a feast for the eyes, bright lights, neon and shiny surfaces abound. Combine this with superb audio and pumping trax and you have the makings of a great racer. The handling feels very good, appears to have been overhauled from the original, car feels more difficult to drive and when traversing over grass sections you can notice the reduction in grip level. Besides the usual modes of play such as quick race and online there is a great new feature called 'free roam' where you can basically just cruise around exploring the vast city area. During this mode of play you will also come across street races that you can choose to participate in if you so desire. Looks like there will also be a great deal of tuning and customisation options in the final game. It's shaping up to be very good and a game you can't miss even if you only remotely liked the original. Well it's not for everyone, an arcade racer no doubt and most of the simmers around here probably won't like it. Oh and they remembered to include a replay system this time. :P

Try it . . . but only use your peripheral vision. ;o) Elrikk
I saw all these responses coming when I was typing my post. Typical. My system is rock solid. I have a lot of older sims and games installed that I still play from time to time and you never know when a new driver or even the latest minor revision of DirectX will hose one of them. So why take the chance until I have to install it, instead of installing for a demo that will probably only be installed for 30 minutes? My advice is to learn how to backup your Windows partition...

Well, I had the same fears, but I installed it anyway to try a couple of demos (I believe, the latest GTR demo and the Call of Duty: United Offensive one), and I haven't noticed any problems so far (I had 9.0b previously). But when I tried the same demos previously, they worked anyway, so I don't know why they were asking for 9.0c... -- __________ ____---____ Marco Antonio Checa Funcke \_________D /-/---_----' Santiago de Surco, Lima, Peru _H__/_/ http://machf.tripod.com '-_____|( remove the "no_me_j." and ".sons.of" parts before replying

If this game is as good as the first it should be very, very good.
