It doesn't matter. You will still be able to pass the output of your existing SB through the EDGE to your speakers. But remember, all apps writen for these boards will be in windows(VFR, NASCAR, etc) so being SB compatiable is essentially meaningless. For DOS, the chip for MIDI emulates a MPU-401 (wavetable MIDI same as what AWE is). In other words, don't worry. Old games will still play fine with your old SB, and newer games writen for the board don't care that its not Sb compatiable. -- Eric T. Busch Emory University

>I wonder if you'll be able to "disable" the soundcard part? Better yet, >release a version WITHOUT the soundcard option! You will always be able to pass the output of your present Soundblaster card through the EDGE. But remember, the MIDI wavetable will be compatiable with the SB AWE (MPU-401). But this doesn't really matter b/c all games made for the board will be for windows so it really will not matter. -- Eric T. Busch Emory University

No, it would save maybe $15. I guess they could sell you one without the sound part and you could save $15. -- http://widget.ecn.purdue.edu/~fmah
>I wonder if you'll be able to "disable" the soundcard part? Better yet, >release a version WITHOUT the soundcard option! >Andy Actually, let me clarify that previous post. The same chip performing the gfx does the sound so it is an integrated function. Besides, it will blow any Sound Blaster away. I should know I have a $280 SB. So the $15 would be for a few parts on the card. -- http://widget.ecn.purdue.edu/~fmah
