NFS Kilometers per Hour

4 posts by 4 people · 21 Feb 1996 - 24 Feb 1996

Hi all you NEED FOR SPEED freaks, I am a AUSSIE, and down here we don't use MILES per Hour, but instead Km per Hour. What I was wondering is there away to change the MILES an Hour stuff, in the NEED FOR SPEED to KM/HR ? I know the German version already has this, but I can't read German, and I don't want to learn. :-) It shouldn't be to hard !!! Love the Game :-) AXE -- Check out my DOOM 2 Levels, and tell me what you think. AXE1, AXE2, AXE3, AXE4, AXE5, AXE6, AXE7. All at your local friendly DOOM ftp site.

Interesting. The miles/km per hour thing doesn't bother me much...but the NFS design team is in CANADA! We use kilometers here! Friggin liters, too, but I won't start a thread on that... :) I think the old Distinctive Software team should have built a Canuck option into NFS! That way we could have had KMH, rusty cars, and really expensive gas! Maybe huge potholes and carpet on the dashboard for Quebec drivers! :) Flame away, tabernac! Or they could have put in some of those crazy Vancouver pedestrian crossings... :) Or Ontario drivers who won't get out of the left lane! -- Neil Yeatman, Ajax, Ontario, CANADA Live music is better; bumper stickers should be issued! Here's a copy of a message I wrote about it earlier. It is also much faster than ICR2 (not knowcking ICR2, it's just a different type of game and game engine). Of all the "arcade" racers NFS is the one with the most realistic driving and feel.

I agree, what a fantastic game! The driving "feel" is very authentic, it blows all the other "arcade" racers away. The ability to recover from skids with real-world steering techniques is very impressive. I'm not 100% sure of this but I think NFS was actually done in EA's Vancouver, BC office in Canada. Same with T2 - makes for an incredible driving experience. My favourite part of the race: on the mountain closed-circuit course, blasting by the church and flying down that twisty, steep downhull drop (and trying not to get distracted by the beautiful graphics of the sun beaming down through the clouds!). The graphics and gameplay in NFS are nothing short of spectacular - very close to arcade quality (like Daytona 500), at least on my fast Pentium. Much, much faster than ICR2; because NFS does not have true 3D roaming cameras (there are different views but you're always looking forward down the road) I think they were able to use pseudo-3D tricks to speed it up. I'm pretty sure it's running at 30fps, with full textures and hi-res. Not to bad at all. Joe
