T2 and ICR2- let's see some best times

I'm getting paranoid- I bought a T2 a week ago, and love it, except for one detail- my times are off by a full second, and I don't appear to be in the running to getting them back soon. And I feel like I am doing much cleaner laps than I did with my old Virtual Pilot Pro/CH pedal combo! One major difference is that I am one-foot driving now, instead of two with the CHpedals. Anyway, I am doubly paranoid to hear that most of the extremely fast laps (below 52.000 at long beach, let's say) seem to be done by people with joysticks, and more than one has mentioned that they have T2s but gave them up for their old systems because their times sucked... So here's the question- is anyone out there geting sub 52 times for Long Beach (or the equivelent anywhere else) using a T2? And are you one-foot or two foot driving? Do I just need another week or two to get the times back? If so, I'll just reset my best times and pretend I'm just a slower guy.

Well, I'm not into the 51s (or even 52s) yet, but I've only had my T2 for about three weeks. I've never played ICR2 with a joystick; indeed, I bought the game back in November but put it aside until I decided to buy a T2. Funny how that just about coincided with the start of the IndyCar season. :) In just a few weeks, I've dropped my Long Beach time to 53.460. And watching the replay shows MUCH room for improvement. I think if you already have the skills, you should just be patient and wait for your times to come back down. I tried driving with only one foot, but that is just WAY too slow; you can never get off the gas and on to the brake fast enough. Clark

I don't remember my times, but I do 2-foot driving with the T2. It's easier if you take your boots off - you can tell what you're doing better../.. sure, it's cramped, but I think my times improved. (am I just imagining it?) Mike

Well, I heard some Michael Wollenstein(sorry for the spelling) guy got a high 51 with the T2, which doesnt' impress me cause i have a 51.8 with a joystick, then i hear some other guy got a low 51 with a joystick. But then I hear that some guy got a 50.something, and I'm not sure what he was using. If that person would like to say what input device he's using, it sure would be nice. johnny ahn

If the deal is the same as it is in Nascar, it is built into the program to give joystick users with no pedal's an advantage. If you are doing the multitesting you will notice that your car sticks much better and is faster than with Nascar 1.2. That's because Papyrus has made an attempt to fix this due to complaints from wheel and pedal users like myself. They (Papyrus) evidently felt that joystick users would be at a disadvantage. However, that was not the case.

Once you try a wheel .......you will throw that joystick out the window ......

Damn, I'm at about 56...I'm in TROUBLE :( Eldred Pickett I am NOT paranoid. And why are you always watching me?!?

Once you try a wheel .......you will throw that joystick out the ?window ...... That is soooo true. I just got a T2, and my only complaint is that I waited so long to get one. Frankly, even if joysticks are somehow faster, I'll never play without my T2 again.... --Evan

... Can these programs tell the difference between a wheel and a joystick? Or do they just pay attention to whether or not you have pedals?

Frankly, even if joysticks are >somehow faster, I'll never play without my T2 again.... I agree, even with my slower times, I love the feel of the system. However, we now know for sure that ICR2 deals with digital inputs differently from analog (joystick) input- people pushing buttons have a traction advantage. So maybe people should include in their fast-lap submissions what control devices were used to do the laps. Since this thread has gotten split in to three pieces for some reason, I don't know if everyone read Rick Genter's excellent, frank answer to the question that has been plaguing many here: ________________________________________________ Newsgroups: rec.autos.simulators Subject: Re: T2 and ICR2-Lets see some best times Date: 24 Apr 1996 10:55:57 -0400 Organization: America Online, Inc. The difference between analog and digital traction will be removed in the DOS patch. As far as acceleration/braking goes, currently there is no difference in terms of maximum acceleration/braking. However, with analog control you will not achieve maximum acceleration/braking unless you are at the absolute end of your control's range. This means that calibration is extremely important, as well as the quality of your analog device. Being just one count off can give you as much as 1% less acceleration/braking force.
