Another Hawaii User Suggestion

9 posts by 7 people · 27 Apr 1996 - 07 May 1996

I'm hardly an expert and I've only used Hawaii a couple times, but something I saw last night kinda prompted me to send another suggestion to other users. We had a race set up for our series, seven or eight racers, we were all ready to go race, waiting for a server. Watched a couple races end, the guys who were in those races trickled out of 'em, but there would be one or two people left in the race and the longer they hung around the longer we had to wait and rack up phone bills to behold..... Anyway, my suggestion (flame if you must) is that once your race is over do your durndest to get out of the race and open up a server to another race waiting to go. This is especially important during busy times (of course this was around 1:20AM eastern).... Viewing the replay off line is a lot cheaper :-) bill -- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- NASCAR - Everything else is just a game.

How bout just having the server end the race once all active drivers have crossed the finish line? Or maybe having the server automatically close the race 60 seconds after the last racer crosses the line. 60 seconds is more than enough time to check out the finals standings.. ========================================================= ==Jim McGuigan Power Switching & Conversion Systems== ==Hanover, PA Baltimore / Washington Field Service== == == ** Hawaii Driver: Knuckle Duster ** *********************************************************

Jim - I believe we're allowing 3 minutes after the last racer crosses the S/F line (and the last racer must cross S/F line within about 1.5 X normal lap speed, or their position is scored where they are on the track and the race is marked complete). We want users to be able to save replays, do a bit of quick review, and chat a bit before rushing them to the exits. Hopefully we'll be able to please everyone, by adding a couple more race servers and adjusting the scheduler threshholds for starting races depending on load, so there will be less time waiting for a race server ... I don't remember...how many servers ARE there? Eldred Pickett I am NOT paranoid. And why are you always watching me?!?

Sounds reasonable enough.... ========================================================= ==Jim McGuigan Power Switching & Conversion Systems== ==Hanover, PA Baltimore / Washington Field Service== == == ** Hawaii Driver: Knuckle Duster ** *********************************************************

I like to save replay files. Depending on the length of the race and the number of cars, this can take a while. As long as you don't get booted out in the middle of a replay save, this would be fine. I hadn't thought of saving replays when I wrote this awhile back. Good point. ========================================================= ==Jim McGuigan Power Switching & Conversion Systems== ==Hanover, PA Baltimore / Washington Field Service== == == ** Hawaii Driver: Knuckle Duster (2) ** *********************************************************
