Papy's "NASCAR 2003" still on top?

When last I was able to do any online racing Papy's last release, "NASCAR 2003 Season" was king of the NASCAR sims. That 2003 was to be Papy's final release was the cause of much weeping and gnashing of teeth but even so, 2003 was seen as being so far ahead of the other sims that it was likely to remain THE standard for the as far into the future as anyone could see. Is this still the case or has it been replaced by some other "serious" sim? If NASCAR 2003 Season still reigns what "mods" and patches do I need to be up to date? Any advice appreciated.

>"Joe" <[email hidden]> wrote Is this still the case or has it been >replaced by some other "serious" sim? Simracing is a large field. It's the same with flight sims, I mean I wouldn't compare those B-17 bomber sims to Falcon 4, or the latest Microsoft FS. This goes accordingly to racing sims. At this current moment, there is a few titles that would match certain quality and realism aspects of NR2003, sometimes even better depending on it's field. - F1C http://www.easportsf1.com/index.asp?lc=eng&t=pc&s=4&ss=1 - Richard Burns Rally http://www.richardburnsrally.com/ - GTR http://www.simbin.com/ - Generally ;-D http://generally.racesimcentral.com/ That seems to be the bulk (including NR2003) of racing sims discussed at this moment here on r.a.s. With GPL of course, which still remains the oldie that we all respect beyond recognition. > If NASCAR 2003 Season still reigns what "mods" and patches do I need to be > up to date? Papyrus has released patches which gives us the addition of Craftman Trucks, Busch Grand National and a "Trans-am" type physics to the game. This has basically created two major addition to NR2003, which are TPTCC http://www.tptcc.com/ and PTA http://www.theuspits.com/sims/nascar_racing/pwf.html -- -- Franois Mnard <ymenard> -- This announcement is brought to you by the Shimago-Dominguez Corporation - helping America into the New World...

These are Project Wildfire (PWF) mods which also include the IROC series, and now there's an Aero88 mod which gives us actual 1988 bodies using the CTS physics, an open wheel (OWR) mod, and a CASCAR mod (using the GNS physics). > which gives us the addition of Craftman Trucks, > Busch Grand National and a "Trans-am" type physics to the game. Maybe I am reading this all wrong, but Papy did release the patch, which gives us the addition of Craftman Trucks, Busch Grand National and a "Trans-am" type physics to the game. I think you are mis-reading this as Papy having given us the truck, BGN, and TA mods. Frank was simply stating that Papy gave us the patch which unlocked the physics, if I understood that correctly. There are several mods. If you old account is no longer around and you have to start over, good luck ever getting into an online race unless you are in a league. I recently moved up from N4 and ratings did not carry over. As a result, I have only been able to two 2 races due to minimum ratings lock out. I have tried hosting, but for some reason my firewall isn't passing the ports properly. Joe wrote:

So show me in the ONE official patch that I have where they added those? Nothing AT ALL is mentioned in the readme. It took a program from The Pits to "unlock" the TA physics...we never would have seen the GNS or CTS without PWF's mods... So no - in my view all Papy did was lay the groundwork for the physics in there...it took OTHER 3rd party stuff to really "get out". > > >and now there's an Aero88 mod > > Not an essential mod. Says you. I say the TA mods aren't essential - mainly because I have no interest in running those cars. So I guess it's a matter of opinion as to which mod is "essential".
>"Redlew Cra" <[email hidden]> wrote > So show me in the ONE official patch that I have where they added those? Papyrus created 3 new types of physics with the patch. Fact. All that is needed. >...we never would have seen the GNS or CTS without > PWF's mods... Yes, we would have access to the physics (which you can associate with any kind of graphical rendition of a vehicule, like the aero88 mod per example). > So no - in my view all Papy did was lay the groundwork for the physics in > there...it took OTHER 3rd party stuff to really "get out". Everything else wasn't necessary to a "mod". It was pure candy, that's all. That's what PWF and the Pits TA mod gave us. Eye-candy to associate the physics that Papyrus gave us. PWF Trans-Ams or TPTCC Trans-Ams, they are absolutely the same physics. Just the eye-candy that was modified. >> >and now there's an Aero88 mod >> >> Not an essential mod. > > Says you. I say the TA mods aren't essential The Papy physics unlock a TRANS-AM TYPE set of physics. Not a 1988 Winston Cup one. Fact is, the TA gives us a fair accurate graphical rendition of the physics that Papyrus gave us in the patch. <yawn> This is pointless. Depends on your priorities.

The patch unlocked the NBS, CTS and road racing physics engines that are required for all the various current mods to work.

Aero88 has no merit because it uses "pretend" physics given what is being represented, whereas PWF's T/A Mod uses physics which are admittedly by Papyrus rather loose in their interpretation (and not really intended as Trans-Am, but an amalgam of various top-level series around the world). (6-speeds being but one example.) Not to mention I've yet to see a Viper Competition Coupe in Trans-Am. ;-) Sounds kinda similar to me. Two mods making the most of what they have to work with. -jde
