Yep, it really should be fixed, I had this problem once to, it's
totally unrealistic, even a team of octopusses wouldn't do it so
quickly.
I once drove without the complete nose, and without one of the wheels,
but I managed to get in the pits,if that is still realistic then I
better get in the Formula One as a test-crash driver :).

In a crash into the wall at Interlagos my friend (we
were over the modems) lost his front wing and his
left front tire. He drove the car back to the pits and
in under 10 seconds he had a new wing and a new wheel
and was heading back out on the course.
Clearly, the pit stop routine is TOTALLY unrealistic.
We need a patch for this, a glaring problem.
