I was wondering if it was possible to play a modem game against someone
that has NFS, and you have NFSSE?

It does not appear so. In NFS, the one who ANSWERS is in control. In NFSSE
it is the other way around, so you either have two computers that are waiting
for each other to do something, or both computers trying to be in control!
A friend and I tried this without success. Of course our modem strings
may not have been correct. We eventually got it working with NFS to NFS.
