Drivers: I hope you all understand that NASCAR 2 is not a WINDOWS 95 program. NASCAR 2 runs using DOS/4GW which is a 32-bit DOS operating system in protected mode. What this means is when you run the program in windows 95 expect the worst and be happy with what you get until they finally give us the WINDOWS 95 version. Don Wilshe In the NASCAR 2 manual it says from PAPYRUS I QUOTE!!! ====================================================== Note: NASCAR 2 Racing 2 is a DOS based game. If you use the WINDOWS 95, we recommend that you restart your computer in MS_DOS mode before playing. The game will run faster and have more memory for longer replays in DOS. ======================================================== Papyrus has told us over and over again that you should not run multiple memory managers in the system like, EMM386 so dont expect and stability in WINDOWS 95. Dont expect TOP speeds as well. I have always run from a DOS BOOT disk and it has served me well..

For a properly configured system not running anything else in the background, Win95 DOS Box works acceptably IMO. But, Don's right, it's a DOS game, and if you want to reboot to DOS, (and you have DOS drivers for all of your cards), the game might run VERY slightly better... ---Jim Sokoloff, Papyrus PS: If it runs fine for you in Win95, stay there...

At least it's not a Windows95-only program. I hate it when someone makes a game which can only be run under Windows 95, when it would be run much better and faster under DOS (Win95 compatibility should be still there, though, for people who like to run it under Win95).
Is it not true that the only way to run TEN is in windows95, so that will most likely cause more problems trying to run Nascar2 and Ten under windows95. Please can we get some real answers instead of a bunch of marketing hype.

Yes, Ten currently uses Win95's dial-up networking and I don't think there are plans for a DOS version. As long as you don't have tons of stuff running in the background, Win95 runs DOS games just fine. On my system, there is no noticeable difference between a DOS game run in DOS or a Win95 DOS box (as little as a fps difference for Quake). If you're having trouble with Win95 and random HD access causing pauses in games, try these two features. First, to keep the Virtual Cache from filling up all your available memory, add the following two lines to your system.ini file under the [VCache] section (add it if it's not there) where the number is about 25% of your RAM: MinFileCache=4096 MaxFileCache=4096 Secondly, you'll want to have a constant sized swapfile. To do this, goto the System Properties (right-click My Computer and choose Properties), choose the Performance tab, then select the Virtual Memory button. Choose to specify your own settings, and set both Min and Max to about 2.5 times your actual RAM. Additionally you can defrag the swapfile for even better performance (quite easy to do with multiple HDs). -- The IWCCCARS Project: Q & A Representative http://www.theuspits.com/iwcccars/index.html http://userwww.service.emory.edu/~ebusch/

The framerate. Unfortunately you do get better framerate in DOS(at least on my system) because Win95 is still using CPU and memory, Does anyone know of a DOS internet connection program that would enable me to connect through DOS to run N2-IPX? -DG-

Yeah if there was a Win95 only version Nascar2 it would probably crash as often as Win95 does, and people complain about it crashing now. -- Todo Es Justo En Amor Y Carreras. They put the disclaimers in there so when somebody call tech support and they say I'm having trouble with N2 and 95 they can quickly say we don't support '95 and go on to the next caller. Actually it does run fine under '95 the only thing most would notice would be shorter replays. This coming from a P133 rendition owner, milage varies with different systems. Q.B.M.

Replays length is set by the amount of ram you have.
SimRaci 09 Feb 1997#355495
Yes, but system resources have a *** habit of using RAM... Best Regards, Marc Marc J. Nelson Sim Racing News - USA [link lost in import]

Yes, replay length is RAM dependant. But, if Win95 is loaded, doesn't that take memory away from N2? Or does your version of Win95 require no memory? So yes, you would see shorter replays on the same system is Win95 is loaded.
