MadCatz wheel owners: Does it work with Need For Speed?

2 posts by 2 people · 07 Feb 1997 - 15 Feb 1997

Hello together, I think about buying the MadCatz steering wheel/padels. From several threads I heard that people use it sucessfully with GP2 und ICR2. I wonder if the pedals will work with NFS (not the special edition) as it seems to be one of the games that expect gas/brake on the y-axis of joystick 1. As far as I know T2 owners (at least of the older ones) have an adapter that maps the gas/brake pedals from port2 to port1. My questions: How is the MadCatz wired? Are gas/brake using one axis or do they use two axes, (one for gas, one for brake)? Are gas/brake already mapped to port1 or is there an adaptor similar to the T2's? Thanks for any information. I have a MadCatz and I think it's great for it's prize. 70$ is cheat for a great wheel of this kind. It's not the best one on the market but the quality/prize ratio is wonderful. With Gp2/Icr2/N1/N2 the configuration works great. It's a two controller wheel. The joystick 1 X-axis is for the direction. The Y-axis is for the gas and brake. The joystick 2 is for the 8-way direction switch on the wheel. The shift buttons may be actioned from 3 places on the unit. First from the shifted on the right of the wheel. Then on the back of the wheel (F1 type shift but with buttons instead of paddles). Finally the two upper buttons on the front of the wheel are also used for shifting. IMHO they're all great depending on the game you play. I don't know if the MadCatz works for NFS (yep I'm a simulator red-neck, not an arcade Daytona USA driver !). But why it would'nt work! The Mad catz comes in a 1 port plug. The pedals are plugged in the wheel unit so there's only one port for the entire joystick. The gas/brake is only 1 axis, but for the price it's not the big difference. Go for it if you're the "I'm playing for the fun of racing" guy. I don't think Simracers need the Momo wheel with carbon pedal and actual CART shifter with 243 buttons and mounted seat with vents to recreate the air flow at speeds up to 330 km/h. :) Good race at the Brickyard, [===] Go Rubens Barrichello, Jacques Villeneuve, | ! | And all you that thinks that Jacques Villeneuve is |!| from Canada, your right!!
