>Initial X-Car impressions: >Positive: >1) A very generous demo allowing _any_ car on Mid-Ohio and a figure 8 oval .. Lots of laps. As demos go, it's not to bad. The setup boys will love this. It ran on my P133 w/rendition card. I didn't try customizing the cars. But pit adjustments didn't seem to effect the way the car handled on the track. ( a demo bug?) The cars are very twitchy at the figure 8 track. I tried to make adjustments in the pits and could not achieve understeer, (or push in stock car terms). The backround art is very good. The cars themselves, well, leave something to be desired. At this point I give it a 2 out of 5. Karter
If you wasted your time downloading this one I feel for you (It took me 45 minutes with a T1 connection). This game leaves a lot to be desired as a sim. Aside from the graphics the game lacks substance. It seems as if the designers couldn't decide whether to make the game sim or arcade. What they produced is neither. I give it a 5 of 10 for the graphics. Brian Johnson

SIM >, after all.) >_Simmers_! Download this thang and give it a chance........ >Arcade racing fans need not apply... X-car is definitly a sim, with an arcadish look. Thge graphics are easily better than gp2/indycar and i think even a bit better than nascar2. Lots of options, excellent tracks, and the damn thing has a decent frame-rate on my p120 32 megs..... The only problem I have with X-car (and this is a demo, so who knows) When your car gets into a slide, there's no catching it! Anyone noticed this yet? I mean, your sliding, and you go to correct, and the car does nothing...brake or no brakes, gas or no gas; I can't catch a slide, period! Maybe I'm doing something horribly wrong?
>_Simmers_! Download this thang and give it a chance........ Agreed, this sim really has the feeling of IMSA all over it, I can almost imagine fighting Mad Max and his red Ferrari for the line into the corner, maybe Bethesda will release the file structure for the cars and someone can make an IMSA car set. The handling feels pretty good once I changed to REALISTIC, turned steering, braking, shifting, and spin help off, although the cars were feeling pretty tail happy until I played around with the car steering settings and added a bit of rear wing along with a V-10 engine. Pretty soon I was getting the hang of *** the tail out around the turns and was actually outrunning the AI on rookie. A couple of things that I haven't gotten used to are: 1. The graphics look a bit on the dark side, I hope they add a video gamma adjustment. 2. I wasn't able to find an adjustment for setting the center deadzone for the controller and with my T2 at highspeed I was weaving alot when I was overcorrecting. Actually I probably just have to find the adjustment that compensates steering to car speed similar to GP2, it looks like it might be there but I didn't look too hard for it. This sim looks like a must buy for me after 2 hours of playing with the demo especially since I live in Seattle and have always dreamed about racing under the monorail weaving in and out of the support poles for the track, and from the screenshots for the Seattle track this is possible in X-Car. Pretty neat details too in the car setup screen like the different test tracks for Top Speed, Cornering, Braking, and Skid Pad. Definitely think the demo was worth the download. X-Car demo Good points: Nice and fast graphics Nice fog effect Test tracks Best setup options I have seen so far Can be fun Bad points: Sound AI Traction model is odd Cars

I played the game about 2 months ago at Bethesda'a HQ. and you can pitch the car sideways and recover you just have to be lightning fast to do it! I think the physics of the cars are excellent. And once we "Simmers" figure out how to set these cars up(Have you seen that setup screen? If not then check it out at http://home.sprynet.com/sprynet/poppa1 the first page is slow so click on to the second) we should be able to do what ever to the cars! in terms of control!!

Haven't tried it yet, but other posters in this group say that the cars look like shit, and not to download the demo. I'll give it a chance and will post you my opinion when I actually see it for myself. NOTICE - My email address has been altered to avoid unwanted mail.
Hi, I just got the demo and so far all I see is blue sky. I hear people talking about fog/rain. Where is it??? This demo is great, a lot of options compared to other demos, you can actually play this demo! If the final release is a good as good as this demo, it looks like my hard drive will be a little fuller in the not too distant future! John

Play with the car settings, pick "MODIFY CAR" and go change the amount of steering lock. I increased all three of the steering settings and added a bit of rear wing angle and it really changed how the car handled and cornered. It makes it possible to use opposite-lock to control spins and even get a bit sideways around the corners without spinning out. Of course I don't know what the two other steering adjustments besides steering lock angle are actually for since it will probably only be explained in the game manual, but increasing them seemed to help. Also make sure you turned off steering help and spin help in the options menu, these two were making it very difficult to control the car with until I figured out they were enabled. Hope that helps. Nice demo to play with until the game actually releases. Cheers. --John -- Note: my real e-mail address is below. >Arcade racing fans need not apply... Must disagree. Maybe the demo does not have the arcade mode, but the version I playtested DID have the arcade mode. Takes all that setup stuff out, and also lets you stick to the track much better. It seemed to me that X-Car was good for the super-techies who want to change the air pressure in the tires (even down to zero) and spring rates and roll bars, and good for the folks who just want to sit and blast around the track! I liked it very much, and I am mostly an "arcade" guy. Dan.

You know that there is a paint kit that will let you import and export the cars

X-car could be a gr8 game. The demo is pretty slick...altho still buggy. It has both an arcade and sim mode, the gameplay is alot diff between the 2 modeZ. IMHO they made a big mistake without including multiplay in the demo. Whatever they do, they better release it fast, b4 NFS2 come out ;-)
