Lurching right, My findings

I installed the patch and then my T2 starting lurching to the right. I reinstalled N2 and then installed the patch again and again the lurching. The next time, I totally removed N2 from my system and then reinstalled. No lurching. I installed the patch and got the lurching again. The reason I did this so many times, I was seeing if any of the modified files had anything to do with it. I found out that it didn't. It is definitely the patch. At least for my system. So, I am reinstalling N2 and leaving off the patch. I can handle the no 'save' game. I can't tolerate the lurching. I hope someone in our group can figure this out. I don't want to wait 6 or more months for Papy to develop another patch. There's a lot of smart people out there. Please come up with something. Kelvin Kelvin www.nashville.com/~james.hayes/kel.htm

Okay, My brother had the "T2 Lurch" before the patch, right from the first install. Guess he's really in trouble, he was hoping that the patch would fix his setup. For what it's worth he has a Packard Bell with an Aztec Sound card and a Diamond 3D card (the earlier version PCI 2400?), and only 16MB Ram. Rich K.

Since N1 I've always had a "lurch" problem. It always happened in the middle of turns on a speedway, never on the road courses. It was just a slight jog to the right, enough to make you overcorrect if you reacted and smash the wall if you let it be. I always assumed it was a product of a bad setup, Papyrus' way of letting you know that you needed to do more work. And it usually lasted the first few laps of a race rather consistently and would pop up later on every now and then. Same thing in N2 before the patch. I had heard of a phenomenon called 'picket fences" where the seams of the tracks sections put together in the sim form an electronic "bump". Don't know if this was a valid theory or a fact, though. After the patch I do notice the lurching, however it has a different quality than what I've been living with. On my system the lurch never tosses me into the wall. It's more like a wobble and then return to course, even in turns.Kind of like the wobble you get when your steering lock is set way too high. I notice it more in Kali, than on Win95, and less in Dos than on Win95. It hasn't caused me to wreck yet, but then I'm kind of used to lurching. Perhaps a place to look is in setup implementation, or wheel lock parameters. I'm running a P-133...32megs ram..diamond Stealth 1 meg PCI T-1 or T-2, ACM game card, patch installed on clean version 1 of N2..patch stopped at C***te even though files have never been modified. I thought I could live with the lurching. I was wrong, I can't. Lap 178 in third place at Dega (Saved the race back on lap 39 while exiting pits) had been fighting the lurch all night and was in position to get a run on #3 and #6 coming out of turn 2. I LURCHED hard right, smashed the wall and heard, "that will certainly end our day". I am going to reinstall the original ver1.0 because: LURCH KILLS, JUST SAY NO TO LURCH. BRYAN

Could it be that we need to work on our setups to cure the "lurch"...? I have seen similar reactions in N1 with a setup I had used at Rockingham. Just a thought P60 16Ram Acer S20 game card High Res 7-9 fps Minimal graphics use Mondy

Why didn't I save the race again after lap 39? Hmmmm..............Because when I race, I try to emulate actual conditions that I might encounter in a league ( NRO if it ever flies). Call me crazy but I just don't get the same satisfaction from winning a race after I have saved it four or five times. If you run a 100% race and finish ( I race the A1's at 105% at Dega, 101 - 102 most everywhere else) your palms are sweatin, neck is aching and you probably have a good case of car butt. So in short, N2 is a simulator and I try to simulate real racing. Of course using the save game feature (which I do not have anymore due to LURCHING) is the only way that a majority of people can race a 100% race due to all sorts of legitamate reasons (time constraints, nagging wives, crying kids, etc.....). Hope I've shed some light on my ways (LIKE ANYONE REALLY CARES). Good racing to all and remember, JUST SAY NO TO LURCH, IT KILLS! Bryan Grauss, San Ramon, CA bryan93

If it is a setup problem, why is it that no one has reported the problem before the patch came out. Simple answer, it is not a setup problem it is a Software problem, a hardware problem, a RAM problem or Hale Bop is to blame.
I agree that the lurch is bad, although i cant say as I have ever seen it....but from what you all state it sux..;) what I wanted to ask,(and i know this wont make you laugh) is WHY hadn't you saved it since lap 39? i mean, when you have already saved a race, wouldn't it make sense to save after each pit stop? I don't mean to be mean an I'm not trying to flame here. but man you coulda saved alot of that effort with the save game... TrenT -- CatchMeIfU.........................Can
Well I think we will see the lurching fixed pretty quick. Cause they sure can't have lurching and latency problems on NRO and expect to be noting but a crash fest. Lurching Would Kill NRO, if NRO ever Lives!!
hehehe I understand completely...i just HAD to say something though ;) I've been corrected in my earlier stance about the lurching, so now all I can really say is, hang in there, they are fixing it...now if I could only get a decent wheel on my salary...i could run those speeds consistantly too..... -- CatchMeIfU.........................Can

Rat) Date: 2 May 1997 17:33:43 GMT Message-ID: If it is not a setup problem then I assume that all of you who are complaining of the "Lurch" have done a full installation of N2 and have been able to save your setups. As well as refining those setups so that you were the best driver you could be due to the fantastic setup you had created. I for one could not see the sense in using 1/7th of my hard drive to do a full installation. So I chose not to drive N2 from Dec until now. Therefore I have not had the luxury of working on setups until this patch was released. I now will happily do everything I can to make what setups I have better tomorrow than they are today. I will continue reading this newsgroup as I have for the last 8 months. Patiently awaiting any further developments concerning N2. If lurching is a software problem let it be....deal with it until something better comes along. I mean geez lets quit whining, drive your race car and show your stuff on the track. After all it's only the greatest racing sim on the planet (so far). Has it not provided you with hour after hour of pure racing entertainment. That's what it's about...entertain yourself. If this sim doesn't do it for any of you perhaps you could go back to playing solitaire... I wasn't whining. I was just stating my findings. Oh, I still race, just without the patch. Doing 190mph between turns 3 and 4 and Taladega, and then it seems like you hit a beer can and head for the wall doesn't sound like a setup problem. Kelvin www.nashville.com/~james.hayes/kel.htm

<snip> Yikes! Did we just hear from someone that doesnt think NASCAR 12 months a year? I agree with you though Mr. Rat. I totally enjoy N2, and have rarely seen a bug in the program. I spend alot of time leaning left (and sometimes right at Sears point and WG), at my computer desk. My dissapointment is no Daytona! but I feel Im gettin my moneys worth when I consider how much equipment Ive tore up if I was doing this for real. Colin McLean Wyle E. Racing Bullhead City, AZ
