N2: Running fast at Dover???

7 posts by 6 people · 17 Sep 1997 - 21 Sep 1997

Hi, I've been practicing at Dover in N2 lately and have not been very fast. I tried the Dover AI patch from The Pits and the cars still seem fast. I race the AI at 100% strength, I usually have speeds that are in the top 10, but at Dover I'am lucky to be in the top 30 at Dover! Is there any special line that I have to drive at Dover? (e.g. Diamond-ing the car in the corners?). So far Dover is one of my least favorites tracks in N2! My favorite track is C***te, what about everyone else? Best, John

I absolutely hate Dover. I can get lap times in the 152 range consistantly, but wind up eventually in the wall. I also dont care for the road courses (but I try to suffer through them). My favorite tracks are Michigan, C***te, and Pocono, usually bump the AI up to keep it interesting :) DRH

Ditto here as well. Both Dover and Richmond are tough for me to stay competitive. I've yet to embark on a Championship season simply because there a few tracks I'm clearly having trouble with. Dale Colorado Springs

For those having probs with Dover and Richmond visit; http://www.team-lightspeed.com/ There you will find setups that'll get you in the 154's possibly 155's at Dover and 122's at Richmond. The key for me at Dover is to set the car up a little loose entering and just a bit tighter exiting so you can get a good run off the corners. Hit turn 1 real low and hard, steady on the brakes but let the car drift just a bit till speed is in the low 140's and power out exiting turn 2 low. Enter turn 3 the same as 1 let the car settle and gradually give it the gas. Richmond, setup loose entering and a little tight exiting like Dover. The biggest key here is to brake early but hardly using them. The less you're on the brakes the faster you can enter both corners. Set both corners up so you can exit low and hard. We hope to have Track tutorials up for both these track soon. Help this helps. Regards, Bob
And don't even think about touching the apron, or you'll be in the wall in a flash! Watkins Glen is a neat course, it can be fun trying to get the car slowed down before the loop at the end of the backstretch. I like those tracks, Bristol is also one of my favorite tracks as well, I've always done well there. I can be very competative there at 100% AI with no change from the default race setup. (If you go through traffic ok, it is easy (well, nothings easy at Bristol!) to get a good finish. I should probably learn more about setups, I spend enougth time doing school work however, maybe I could get the Physics department at my university to make a physics course about NASCAR 2! (put my money to good use for a change!) I had an interesting race at Bristol a few weeks ago, I was running in the lead at about lap 230 of the 250 lap race, when an accident occured right in front of me! I hit one of the cars and the hood and back end of my car were smashed in. I made it to the pits and the pit crew managed to fix most of the damage while keeping me on the lead lap, and in the lead (most of the field was one lap down, accept the R. Wallace car). I still managed to win the race, although Rusty was closing fast! So, Hickery should be interesting when the track pack comes out! John
I like Dover, Pocono & all road courses, but I can't say the same about Michigan. Though, I like Michigan in ICR2 :). Dmitry
