I am still getting the error message "cannot run in dos mode" when I try and install the patch. I have taken the advice from the apex and re-downloaded the patch 5 times. I added the line "set temp=c:\temp" to my autoexec.bat but this did not help. Due to the lack of posts regarding this problem I assume it is fairly rare but I read on the apex that it is to do with windows osr2. Any help would be appreciated. this is the build 90 patch. Anyone who replies with don't bother, why play that crap, use it as a coaster etc. consider yourself a***head, I would rather decide for myself.
>I am still getting the error message "cannot run in dos mode" when I try and >install the patch. OK, there is a way around these silly self-extracting nightmares and it is thus: 1. Run the file. 2. After it extracts (don't click 'ok' or anything on any of the idiotic messages that pop up), Steal the msgame.cab file from windows\temp. 3 . Go get cabview.exe (gee, another self-extractor!) from Micro$oft.com(r) and install it. 4. Go to Exploder and double-click the msgame.cab that you stole. 5. Copy all the files inside to your CART dir. 6. Get on your knees and give thanks to the Gatesmonster. Have fun... Bill -------- "NASCAR is the Professional Wrestling of Motorsport." -Me-

Sorry William I get that message (this program cannot be run in DOS mode) in a DOS window before anything has been extracted therefore your solution wont work, but thankyou for trying.

Maybe you will discover the pearl within that so many of us have somehow missed. I do admire a man who thinks for himself. Alison
What exactly is your damage? Yesterday you said something here to the effect of 'If others get enjoyment out of CPR great" Now every time someone asks a question dealing with CPR or trying to explore it for themselves you and some others feel the need to jump in and decide for them whether or not its " WORTHY" gimme a break. Did you not say this in what is I guess your revised review? ............ CPR has great potential. It can be a great sim. The menus are beautifully laid out and logically done. The car setup options would make any armchair race engineer drool. The vehicle dynamics engine reaches a new level of sophistication. Management of network connection is excellent, holding out the promise of superb racing with friends from all over the world. The graphics and sounds are awesome. The dynamic behavior of the chassis, with leaping, juddering, smoking tires, coupled with the vivid sounds and the intense sensation of speed, is so exciting and real, it can make your palms sweat and your heart beat faster. There are moments when this sim is absolutely delicious. At Long Beach, now that I've hammered out a drivable setup, I have moments where I am able to fling the car through the turn 1, 2, 3, 4 complex as I think it was meant to be done, the inside tires just nicking the curbs, the car squirming a little under throttle, engine wailing as it went up through the gears out of turn 4...Ah! It is beautiful!............. All I am trying to say here is this forum is a NG for all isnt it? Seems like a real form of elitism developing here. whats it going to be rec.F1rs. sim? Who are you to feel the need to jump on anyone trying any sim/game they please? I got 3 words for you regarding CPR .......... GET OVER IT......... You didn't like it fine! > >Anyone who replies with don't bother, why play that crap, use it as a > >coaster etc. consider yourself a***head, I would rather decide for myself. > <roaring with laughter> Good man! Not really responding to Mike's Reply, but to the original post.

I have windows 95a, and I had the same problem. I fixed it by adding both lines to the autoexec.bat file: set temp=c:\temp set tmp=c:\temp Then the program installed fine. Had you included the second line? Dan. "Three options: Right, Fast, and Cheap. Pick Two." Like everyone else, I've changed my reply address. To reply, remove ._nospam_ from address.

Hi Mike, That's not the way I read it. Seems to me she was merely agreeing that one should make up their own mind. I too agree. *Had* great potential, but appears to lack a certain "class" that GP2, ICR2, and N2 have. *Might* be a great sim, provided some of the glaring issues surrounding it are taken care of. Yes, the menus were well thought out. Until they discover there aren't any tire temps. =P Current build is a bit whacked, to say the least. I suppose you'll just have to wait for *my* own review. ;) True. Multiplayer is certainly one of CPR's strongest points. The sound is fine, and welcome after experiencing so many "sims" that completely missed the boat. However, I feel that the graphics, although nicely detailed, are still...uh...blended (for lack of a better word), and there is little (if any) depth. It's a bit like soup, where all items are thrown into a pot and stirred around. Tastes fine, but you might have a hard time telling what's what. The only reason I sweat when driving CPR, is that I'm working harder to keep the car in shape. I don't have the seat time to judge if CPR is "real", but I have plenty of other real-world racing experience to bank on to know that something's amiss. Just as you say, I have mucho fun at Long Beach as well...I would have to be a nut not to, since I work across the street from the circuit! However, since the sim lacks full-course yellows, I find it terribly difficult to be as enthralled with CPR as you seem to be. This single point has to be one of the worst omissions from a sim I've seen in quite a while. Yep, a NG for all. Best to debate over an issue rather than take the offensive against another, no? ;) Cheers! Marc J. Nelson Sim Racing News - USA http://www.simproject.com/simnews
Yeah, I completely agree. CPR is pretty at full detail if you have a machine capable of it, but I have played it on a PII300 with Velocity 128, and it is still not smooth, and there is something "different" about it. I know it just may be a matter of personal tastes, and I have not been to all the CART tracks so I can only account for their realism based on what I have seen on TV coverage. However, I really think Rendition Indycar 2 at full detail looks better than CPR at full detail. It is definitely smoother with a full field of cars. I know am going to come off sounding like a freak here, but I have a Pure 3D which has a TV out jack, so after a friendly debate with a fellow racer regarding CPR's graphics, I made a video splicing in-car TV coverage of Laguna Seca, with***pit views of CPR and Rendition Indycar 2 both at Laguna. I then had several non-simming friends view the video and tell me which one they thought looked best. On 3 separate occasions the choice was Indycar 2, with no prompting from me. Out of 8 people total, not one picked CPR. What does this prove? Well nothing really, except that CPR's graphics may not be the 3D accelerated revolution that many commercial *** sites and mags make it out to be. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Now I know I'm not crazy. Some people may not race with full realism and thus do not want the yellows, so thats fine, but since CPR has marketed itself as a "simulation" of CART racing, this is a glaring omission. Most reviews have not mentioned it at all! This would be like a football sim with no time-outs, or a baseball sim where you could not bring in a relief pitcher. This is a major part of the sport. Not to mention the ommision of the tire temps. Now I hear that Computer *** World just gave CPR Sports Game of the Year and 5 out of 5 stars?? And these reviews are of the unpatched version at that. What is going on? Has Microsoft/TRI gotten to everyone? I am not one to believe in conspiracies, but the Truth is Out There... Don Chapman
Odd, I have that config (with an AGP velocity) and it runs quite smooth. Ouch. I disagree in the most strenuous terms possible :) So they thought flat colored hills looked better? Ultimately CPR is crushed by lack of proper yellow flag support. We can argue every other issue with the game, but ultimately this is the killer! > Anyone who replies with don't bother, why play that crap, use it as a > coaster etc. consider yourself a***head, I would rather decide for myself. I know you want to see CPR but I'll say it anyway. This is just the beginings of much frustration as far as CPR goes. Get F1RS as soon as you can! Really!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep an eye on this NG and if by some miracle CPR gets patched to the point of being 75% as good as F1RS (Warning - do not hold your breath) then come back to CPR and have a look then.
<snip - very passionate stuff in the pro CPR direction> hehehehehehehehe. How's the ovals Mike. You know, there the ones that make CART distinct from F1! CPR is a pig and I doubt it will ever be otherwise!
> <snip - very passionate stuff in the pro CPR direction> I see that you also have overlooked that all that "passionate stuff" was a direct copy& paste from the review of the person I was addressing. I also like CPR but you too have missed the whole point of that post.
