I hate the letterbox screen !!!!!!!! I want full screen racing like nascar
2 & icr2 . The sense of speed can not touch the speed i get in icr2 at the
converted glen track from N2. Yes i used the GP CAR . The control does'nt
seem to be as precise as their other sims . I use a t2 & adjusted all the
steering options . Some of the spins seem canned . The locking of the tires
is cool under braking . I am just not that impressed with the physics model
while driving . Maybe i need to drive it more to get the hang of it but the
more i drive it the more i hate it ( not the other way around ) I know this
is a alpha but IMO it has a longggggg way to go. If nascar 3 is this hard
to get around the track then i'll stick with the games papy made before
sierra ruined them . ( except for nascar 2 :) My system is a p166 48 megs &
a thriller 3d . Put me in a real gp car on the grass & i bet i can get back
on the track alot faster than i can in this f#$%ing sim :) I know alot of
people like this demo so have fun .
Dislike of GPL's letterbox view and handling
A poster disliked the Grand Prix Legends demo's letterbox screen and spinning, and preferred driving from behind the car. Others defended the view as realistic, explained that 1967 cars had no downforce and grooved tyres, and mocked the external-view preference.

Uumm, I think the reason it is hard is that these cars were VERY hard to drive.
What is the challenge you are having in the grass? As long as I don't flloor
it, I can get out of the grass just fine. Just go easy on the pedal. Obviously
if I max out the accelerator, the car will simply spin all over the place in
the grass, which is pretty realistic!! Back to having fun, now!!

I hope you don't plan on racing outside the car if and whenever this gets on
line. You'll also never get that real sense of speed from outside the car.
no wonder your complaining
I'm sorry mack, this is the rec, alt. SIMULATORS...if you drive from behind
the car you want rec.alt.GAMES period.

For me it is among the most precise in any sim to date.
Hmm, I must say I noticed the same. I thought that maybe I'm just a
bad driver, but it seemed I constantly got into spins which I couldn't
countersteer at all, and I really mean at all. Not like in F1RS or
Nascar2 for example. Were the racing cars of sixties really that bad?
:) Couldn't believe a Papyrus sim would have canned spins.
GP2 has them too, fortunately F1RS doesn't. But no sticky grass in GPL
though. :)
I was wrong about the grass . I did a few more laps & started to like it a
little more. My #1 problem with GPL is the letterbox view & FPS . Hopefully
it will improve !!
I really LOVE the letterbox style.......reminds me so much of the movie
"Grand Prix".

In Nascar2 i believe you'll notice that a large portion of the top of
the
screen is the interior of your roof. a large portion of the bottom of
your
screen is the dashboard with a handful of instruments sparsely spread
over
it. Now, look closely at the shape of the windscreen displaying the
track...
does that not look very letterbox shaped to you? And in Indycar2 all
you'd
miss if they letterboxed it would be a bit of cloud. You're throwing a
tantrum over absolutely nothing. :)

nascar 1 and gpr have bigger views.
they are better.
they are better than nascar 2 and GPL.
The replays are better at michigan in nascar 1 than nascar2.
Know why? The view is bigger.
The cars 100 feet ahead aren't just a dot on the screen.
who do you work for, Sierra?

??????GPL controls are *by far* the best I have ever tried. Remember,
it's a SIM. In those days you had:
1) NO aerodynamics
2) LOUSY, grooved tires
3) A chassis that flexed and twitched (essentially a matchbox)
4) An engine that was soooo cammy (gotta love it)
There is so much feel when driving. Be *gentle*, and use the throttle to
steer.
You are going to have a seriouse problem when NASCAR3 comes out...
That's exactly it. The part I've missed from N2. If you go into a turn,
and YANK the wheel left, the car would have spun wildly. You can go down
the straights at Talladega, and quickly turn from lock to lock. The car
twitches a bit. Real? Nope:))I saw a Papy statement on N3 somewhere,
stating that it would be so much more difficult to drive...I can't wait
for it!!
And, I don't think there are any "canned" spins in GPL...IMO

Personally I like the letterbox format. As for FPS, I can't notice frames
when
I am playing - it is quite smooth. (Pentium MMX cpu + Pure3d + 64MB)

april fools joke....Or ...he's never driven a real race car and just
doesn't understand what actually happens on the track...GPL is a true
SIM. I love ICR2 and will continue to race it as well as GP2 and N2
(until N3 comes out ;-) ) but when I start driving GPL I can't
stop...and it's hard... ...and that's why it's so much fun. BTW The Pits
Touring Car version 2.0 is out at their site for those who are
un-impressed with GPL.

Yes the cars of the sixties WERE that bad .You have to remember that
we'retalking narrow tires , cars had a much narrower stance , NO Ground effects
, Alot of power , ect. Even a current Nascar is tons more efficient (
Aerodynamically ) than the GPL cars. Driving the GPL car requires smooth input
and precision car placement to get through the corners quickly ( Something I
have yet to master ). Even the way the cars see to wander around at high speed
is true-to-form. Anyone who has ever been in a 4 wheel drift through a fast turn
in a real car can relate. IMO a most impressive Simulation.

Ummm. Not trying' to disrespect you but...this SIMulation....is a SIMulation
of actual driving. I have yet to see some in an actual race drive from above
and behind the car. I too occasionally drive the ARCADE view in N2 and
ICR2....It's amusing...But I guess Papy made GPL less for Arcade style play
than actual in the***pit driving.

I can't understand why I'm not suprised you drive from behind the
car. Backseat driver? Try getting in the car. See, now your feet can
reach the pedals and everything!
How do you really feel about it?
You don't get it , do you? The cars are based on F1 type cars that
have NO wings and NO spoilers and shitty brakes. So that means there
is absolutely no down force. You need to be a real driver to run
these cars. This is a good way to find out if you have what it takes
to be a professional driver.
I can improve . How many setup options do these old cars have ?

Your probably another one also...
Gpr ? Whoa ! It's the new simulator in 2003 called GrandPrix: Renaissance ?
Well, since I never tried GPR, I can't tell. You probably race the arcade
version of N2.
I think you don't know that there is a "full-screen" view in the Nascar2
replay. You probably hacked the game, and not have a manual.
CUC software, just to help you. lol he thinks it's Sierra who made the
simulator. 'nuff said about his credibility.
