How is everyone editing the 3DO, MIP and SRB files for car bodies?

I was hoping to learn how to do this so I downloaded the .DAT file unpacker and there I saw files I couldn't read. Is there a standard utility that folks are using to edit these files or is it a trade secret of software engineers much more intelligent than I am. :-) David Martin

With "Winmip" it will allow you to edit those files in bmp format then reconvert them. Make sure to read the readme.txt included in the utility, And then send Klauss Horbrand a big thankyou for making this awesome tool. He' s referring to all the files contained in the .dat file of ICR2 aka CART Racing. There's several files inside Papyrus's .dat: pmp, mip, 3do, pcx, etc. The Simproject is the best web site I have come across so far for understanding these files, getting the tools needed, and learning to do one' s own editing. http://www.simproject.com/
Hi David, For ICR2 there's a ton of useful tools that will allow you to edit most of the items in the sim. Some of these tools are DOS specific, but some are available for Win95 as well. N2's another matter all together, and editing the shapes isn't quite as easy. Gilles Benoit has created a useful Win95 editor that works in conjunction with an MS Excel worksheet to edit N2 car shapes, while most of the editing for ICR2 and N1 are done using Marcelo Basino's DOS editor. For the images there are tools both for DOS and Win95. Win95's the better platform to edit images because of the wonderful WinMip tool the Klaus H?rbrand. The WinMip utility can edit pretty much all the images from any one of the Papy sims (ICR2/CART, N1/N2, and GPL) including the 4 and 16-bit images from the Rendition version of ICR2/ CART. All the tools mentioned can be downloaded at The Pits or at The Sim Project <http://www.simproject.com/>. Cheers!
