I can't get the GPL demo to work, when I start the game it goes to the
calibration settings and the computer is locked up at the point. reboot
time. I have tried installing the game in the software and the 3d mode
neither works. any clues as to what I'm doing wrong?

If you are using Windows98, that's the problem.

Thanks Jan for pointing him in the right direction.
I've got one addition to add to the install help faq for people that STILL
can't get it to work - especially for Windows 95 users experiencing
problems:
You may have to adjust your screen resolution BEFORE starting GPL. I saw an
earlier post saying make sure it is set to 800 x 600.. but encountered
someone who had to go as low as 640 x 480 (the gpl default) before they
could get it to work. If this works, you should be able to go into the
option.ini file and change the "Driving Resolution" to 800 x 600 or even
1024 x 768.. then just change the current screen resolution to the same, and
away you go!
Not sure why some people have to do this extra step (I know I didn't), but
if you're still having problems, give it a shot!

then calibrate. From memory that will fix it. If not, go here and find the FAQ -
