Why N2, N99 SUCKS

24 posts by 22 people · 24 Dec 1998 - 26 Dec 1998

Rant that NASCAR 2 and NR99 are terrible

A poster listed complaints about NASCAR 2 and NR1999, including dated graphics and bad AI. Most replies dismissed it as trolling, noting the engine's age and that no better stock car sim existed, and some confused EA's NASCAR 99 console game with Papyrus's NR1999.

Terrible graphics. Slow rendering. Herky jerky car physics. Laughable AI. Poor sensation of speed. Poor support. Archaic 3d engine. Cars that fly around the track backwards at 800 mph. Cars that slam on brakes on first lap coming out of turns. Cars that bounce off the pit walls and go through them. Cars that jump out of your way and let you pass every time. Cars that never flip but just spinout upon hitting the wall at Tally at 180mph. Cars that slam on brakes behind you upon entering pit lane if you don't pit perfectly in the box. Cars that sound like tonka toys. Texture maps ala Castle Wolfenstein. Cardboard cutouts for pit crew members which never move. Cars that never bounce or sway. Anyone care to add more reasons why the Papy NASCAR "sims" suck? Feel free. Oh, and for those of you with your Papy-issued blinders on, feel free to chime in. I understand how insecure many of you would feel in a NASCAR sim world where you don't have to modify every facet of the game just to make it half-ass playable. Here's to one day having a true NASCAR sim. (Probably some time in February) BTW, I don't work for EA, Papy, Sega or any other game maker.

What do you expect, the game's 2 years old. Maybe that's only N99, because I've never seen it in N2 Well, duh, papy said the cars wouldn't flip in the game. Again, never seen it happen How do you know? You drive a tonka? Again, it's 2 years old. Plus, I can't think of any game that has animated pit crew and it looks good & realistic.
> Terrible graphics. ...<snip>... Yeach, Christmas TURKEY Droppings make REALLY BAD bait! Hope Santa leaves a nice new copy of Sierra's "Complete Master Cook Suite 5.0" in your stocking tomorrow :p
If you can find a better sim on the market let me know. everygame has it's faults. If you tell me your favorite game, il find stuff wrong with it too. terrible graphics? N99 has better graphics than many other games out there..

Yes I see the argument on AI behavior and how nr1999 didnt seem to reflect what the users learned in AI tweaking . But is there a better stock car sim out there ???? If there is please enlighten all of us . And btw N3 will allow you to "flip" your car although the majority of us concentrate on actually playing to "win" so flipping isnt an option I necessarily need . <G> Terrible graphics. <<Terrible graphics. I Disagree graphics are fine. Time for a new CPU? Try a decent setup for the track your on. I found them to be competitive. Try a new vid card? Have you tried sierra.com? Really,? Didnt notice. Have not seen this one. Yes!, I agree they do do that and also when getting the green on restarts. I wish! Have you not heard,? NASCAR uses roof flaps now. I have yet to discover this. I wouldnt know the tonka toys I grew up with didnt make any noise. huh? Personally I would prefer not to have the wasted hard drive space for such arcade like features. That would be cool. My replies. Later Mike Lee Late Apex Racing http://members.aol.com/xiprolx/nastour.html

Wow N-"99" sounds like fun! Matt -Teehole Quote: "Many games create the ultimate technological experience, but falter when it comes to creating a compelling story to keep gamers interested".<< Author:Tim Royal,Computer Games Strategy Plus.
I only know of the new Nascar Revolution by EA sports. I think that is the correct name. The pit crew will jump the wall and service the car. Very nice looking for sure. However, after being amazed by the graphics, I realized the cars must adhered to a whole new set of physic laws. Then again, it was a limited demo. Only time will tell. Jerry

I think that his problems are many...I will list a few: 1) He can't drive it, so he bashes the game. 2) He can't get it to work good with his 486-33 DX running Win 3.1. 3) He can't pit very well and blames it on AI. 4) He doesn't know there is a pit road speed. 5) He uses the keyboard and not a wheel/pedal. 6) He's probably from Brazil. Anymore? Probably. I guess your entitled to your opinion, but you had better get more complaints that those because they all sound like you have a bad computer and you can't drive anyway. Merry Christmas. IFLY4DELTA on TEN

Yes I think his Subject is true.. "why N2" and "N99 sucks" I think we all agree that N99 from EA sports sucks ;) (Btw, no I won't flame him, it's Christmas, and he's a too weak victim for me. Nascar99 is a console game from EA. Nascar Racing 99 is the papy sim. You're right, the Nascar Revolution demo has some interesting features, but the physics modelling seems too simple

They're okay for a sim with a 4-year old graphics engine. Hint - buy something faster than a 80286. 4-year old sim. 4-year old sim. 4-year old sim. Hmmm, I guess that's why they released the BGN trackpack and NR99 with Craftsman Trucks, more tracks, and double-file restarts. Yup - looks like they're just leaving us*** with outdated software until they decide to relase N2000. 4-year old sim. Are you sure you're talking about Nascar Racing 2 or Nascar Racing 1999? I see this a s achance to gain some positions. Bump the AI up from 85%. Flipping rarely happens in real life Nascar, and I can't remember the last time simply hitting the wall caused a car to flip. Turn off brakeing help and shifting help. 4-year old sim. What the hell does that mean? No, never mind, I don't want this thread to live any longer than possible. 4-year old sim. 4-year old sim. So what, are you there to drive, or fantasize about your pit-crew members? 4-year old sim. For their time, they're just fine. If you had even HALF a brain, you'd see (by looking at GPL) that Papy improves their craft tenfold every time they release something brand new. Since N2000 is going to use the same physics engine, I imagine you'll get the swaying, bouncing, flipping cars that you seem to think are such important factors in a sim. Not only that, but the graphics will improve with direct support for 3dfx cards and (hopefully) OpenGL. There's a couple of things that I don't think you've considered: 1) Papy can't just shit out a new program every 90 days. These kinds of programs take YEARS to develope. 2)The hardware to support the kind of sim you think you have hasn't been built yet. I'd like to have photo-realistic cars, support for higher resolutions and larger color depths, pit stalls based on qualifying order, ***in multiplayer support and other cool stuff. Sure, the old sims are getting to be a bit dated, but the new version (if it's ANYTHING like GPL) will be fan-***in-tastic. -- ========================================================= John Simmons - Redneck Techno-Biker (Zerex12) http://www.members.home.net/jms1/index.html John Simmons - Barbarian Diecast Collector http://members.home.net/jsimm/diecast_index.html IGPS Director [link lost in import] If you want to send me email, go to either of the URL's shown above & click "Send Me Mail" in the contents frame. =========================================================

The gay Frenchman sez: <<I think we all agree that N99 from EA sports sucks ;)>> I'm not sure what game you are referring to by EA sports. The name's "NASCAR Revolution" Frenchie. Man do we Americans have to constantly keep bailing you Frenchies out of embarassing mistakes?! You'd think you would have learned something from the German butt-whippins'!! YEEEEHAAAA! (BTW, I do like "French" Fries, the one & only lasting French contribution to the world)

It's only a game, it's not real life. What do you expect? If you want realism, shut off the computer and go try to drive a real race car.

Sorry to all those who must see this thread live for a few seconds more, but I was curious as to if the jackass who started this thread is also pissed off because Jeff Gordon or Dale Earnhardt Jr. didn't deliever the damn game to his door step too. For all those who are really stupid I am being sarcastic. This game is so good that it CAN survive for 4 years as a top selling game. Not just as a game getting milked for all it's worth, but as a top-quality product that has been unmatched by any drivel spit out by EA Sports or any other software producer.
JDR7Le 26 Dec 1998#441858
Ok, lets take this line by line backwards, I dont know why either. proper turn, cant always run flat out. blasting through a turn 50mphs faster then the car can turn you would move out of his doomed way too. Look the game is 4 years old. What dont you get about that? Pappy has supported it longer then most company's. It has flaws, but theres a little more involved in a sim then a Mario game. Life's not perfect, neither is a game. Just go get a arcade racer & lighten up.
