GP2 1:23.946 @ Monza

Now that I finally got the hang of playing this stupid game with a joystick, anybody got any better times to post, and if so, shat kind of controller are you using? How much improvement should I expect if I do invest in a good steering wheel setup? As challenging as it was for me to get a 1:23, I can't help feeling that my joystick contributed to several minor mistakes that could have added at least 2/10ths or more. -- Kip C. If you want to compare your times to the best out there your going to have to get into hot lapping. This is going into practice with just enough fuel for the out lap and to cross line line with a setup that wears the hell out of the plank and wouldnt last a few more laps. With a hotlap setup and some luck Ive hit 1:20 a few times using keyboard steering/throttle help on. You should also use an editor to set your engine power at a constant value. http://gallery.uunet.be/year1440/main_framepage.htm this address is for a keyboard hotlap page, but I think he's running an anologue controller contest aswell. Whith a wheel you can turn off steering help and still controll the car, if you practice a "lot". I allways was slower with the short times ive had friends wheels but you can see that with lots of practice you could get a few seconds out of being able to slide the car harder and giving more throttle. I actually used to drive GP2 (don't laugh) using the keyboard, as I could never quite get a good feel for the sim using a wheel? weird I know, as I use my wheel for all other driving games/sims. My fastest (using the keyboard) at Monza was 1:22. Bear in mind using keyboard means you have to have throttle help and steering help *ON* or its undriveable? The fast wheel and keyboard guys were probably way under 1:20? 8-) *Peter* #:-)
I checked out the HOF link previously mentioned and looked at the setups people used. Most of them are running fairly large amounts of front wing and a stiff front suspension. Being that I'm using a joystick, the only cheat that I take advantage of is the shifting help, but these setups seem to be overly loose in the chicanes upon turn-in. However, I found that I was gaining as much as 10-15 mph out of Curva Di Lesmos (the last turns before the straight under the bridge) by using the higher front down force, however I have to slow down more going into the corners to avoid a spin and be more reserved with the power on exit. Is there anybody that's not using the keyboard and a setup like this, or is the high front stiffness and downforce just a bonus with being able to use the steering and throttle help? The balance just seems way off but is apparently negated by using the additional cheats. Maybe it's just me or my controller, but completing a full lap without a shunt is much more challenging with this type of setup and no throttle/steer help. -- Kip C. Anderson kca at rio dot com

if you can do a 123 at monza your the fastest in the world and you dont have a problem my best is a 127.62 I thought that was fast Rick
Sheeze, I'm still trying to break 1:30 Don Burnette Dburn on Ten >if you can do a 123 at monza your the fastest in the world and you dont >have a problem >my best is a 127.62 I thought that was fast >Rick

Ummmmm 1:23 on GPL is fantanstic. Although 1:23 is either good or very good, (according to the slot which your Monza is in !!!) Ben Summers
Hi 01 Mar 1999#453470
Using a TM steering wheel & CH Pro Pedals (no steering help) and with '98 Track Pack & '98 CarSet, race set-up (Pro mode) I can lap an average of 1:23 on race and my best is 1:19.589 But I know a lot of guys who can do a lot better than me on Monza. Daniel Turmel Montreal, Quebec

(at least, thats what it says in the subject line anyway?) I think fastest laps in GPL at Monza are around 1:27 8-) *Peter* #:-)
