COUNTER RACE DRIVER on VROC watch out for M. RORIVE

19 posts by 16 people · 18 Mar 1999 - 22 Mar 1999

I hosted a VROC 17 lap Glen race today at about 1:00pm EST. I don't recall all the drivers that were in the race but there were at least 6 or 7 of us. During practice everything seemed fine from my prospective. However, When the green flag dropped.. I had pole and was on my second lap coming into the kink just before Big Bend. BAM. There's a lotus sitting against the guard rail facing counter race. At first I didn't think anything of it other then maybe that driver spun and I found him at the wrong place. Shoot, cars spin all the time. whoopee. I figured I'd find out who it was and politely ask what happened. So, I went to the replay to find the guys name. I cranked the replay back a few feet and seen the other car driving a couple feet counter race. I backed the replay up a few feet more just to see that he was driving counter race ever since the entrance of the pits! "What the heck was he thinking?". Still going back I seen that he did a "K" turn in the track. It was overly obvious that he had every intention of driving counter race just to take people out. I talked to a couple that said that he was in other races and did the same thing. So. It not a miss understanding of race rules but a blatant attempt at smash up durby. Drivers name was "M. RORIVE". I don't get POed at people that crash others. I figure that it could be either Warp, Driver error, or even the tail end of another crash. This was definitely neither. He wanted to crash people. I do have the replay (2 min.'s or 1.097K worth after t*** it down) of the episode if you want it. Mike Barlow -- ========================================= Mike Barlow of Barlow Racing? I was at the race with Mike, and the exact same thing happened to me , same turn , same Idiot , but later in the race , so let there be no misunderstanding M Rorive , was in fact just out to crash others! Happy Motoring !! Jeff (Rorive does'nt understand what Happy Motoring is)

On Thu, 18 Mar 1999 14:30:59 -0500, Michael Barlow Too bad there isn't a way to save the 12 year old demo-derby wannabe's IP, list it for all to see, and have a way to exclude it from any future online racing, but of course that would only work with static IPs. I guess passworded games are the only answer currently... G. Patricks

This is the same guy who doesn't understand that the practice session is a timed event. In one race I was in, he spent the last 10 minutes of practice shouting "WHEN ARE WE GOING TO RACE!!!". Here's hoping 1.1 will support muzzling/booting. -- Pat Dotson IMPACT Motorsports http://www.impactmotorsports.com/pd.html

I also happend to be in that same race on "The Glen" I came storming out of a turn when I suddenly noticed a Lotus facing my way, I hit the brakes but I couldn't avoid running him. I hit him head on and I thought: "The poor guy. first he spins and then I fully run into him with my poor driving skills". Then I heard other drivers shouting that someone was going the wrong way... Could it be? Yes, I was his first victim.... I just cannot believe somebody beeing so childish to do this.... Maybe the VROC script can be update so this guys info can be deleted and his IP blocked... If you tire of this stuff, give the "Nail That Track" series a try! We conduct daily races in a controlled, but ultra-competitive environment, and place a premium on sportsmanship. We welcome responsible, "in-control" drivers of all skill and experience levels. Search RAS for thread subjects including "Nail That Track" or "NTT" for information about registration, upcoming events, communication settings, and race reports or check out the "News" section of The APEX (http://gpl.gamestats.com/ ). It will (the latter, anyway). !eject m.rorive entered as a chat message by a "boss" will boot them right the heck off. Randy

Hmmm... My next question would be : Can someone who's just been ejected re-connect to the server or does the server remember his IP or something? Wouldn't want to have someone stay in the pits for all the rest of practice time to eject someone that keeps reconnecting over and over again... A. YES!!! thanks Randy, this will be a great relief for those of us hosts who have been forced to end an entire race (punishing all) due to one of these idiot morons who want to ruin the fun for all. Seeyas on the track. --John (Joao) Silva

Like Quake, there's only so much you can do to stop some *** ruining everyone's fun. A couple of friends and I used to run a QuakeWorld server, nice fat E3 connection, low pings, several servers running at once on a dedicated NT box, basically we thought we were doing people a favour. What was really incredible was how many ***s would try to ruin it by running for the exit as soon as any DM level started (and doing it again and again), trying to crash the server, trying to flood ping it (on an E3? Yeah, nice one...!) etc etc. The ban list was absolutely massive eventually! :-) At least in GPL if they have to quit out, change IP, make a new driver, reconnect etc it makes it a serious pain to be a pain! Cheers! John
