RASCAR drivers compare Kyalami Trans-Am lap times

RASCAR drivers shared lap times and corner advice for the Kyalami Trans-Am mod race in NR2003, with times from 1:12 to 1:21. Eldred struggled with frame rate and was advised to lower draw distance, and ZZ warned the pole sitter not to pass the pace car before the start line to avoid a black flag.

Damn I hate to miss this race... love this track and the mod. With the PWF beta I can turn a flat 15, avg over 20 laps is probabably in the 16s. With the Pits mod the fastest I have turned is a 15.5 (same physics right... so it is just a mental thing?). Anyway I think I saw a post from Mark saying he was turning low 14s so I figure 15.5 or 16 might make it to mid-pack if you can keep it on the track the full race. The road course gurus will be long gone and out of reach after about 10 laps. Brian Oster On Tue, 30 Dec 2003 11:06:39 -0500, "Larry" <[email hidden]> wrote:

Now that I'm in the 15's consistently, it's time for me to attack ONE corner at a time in different ways to see if I can change that. My most likely suspects are: 1. Turn 1 (or is it 2 ?) This is the corner _after_ the kink you have to slow down for on the straight. The sharp right-hander. 2. The sharp right-hander after the 'kink' to the left. This is the section right after the turn indicated above. I can _almost_ go through there full throttle after getting the car set, but I think my entry needs a little work. I can't decide whether it's best to go to 5th prior to this corner or not, still working on that. I'm right at the end of the revs in 4th when approaching, and downshift to 3rd for this corner. 3. The very sharp, 2nd gear left-hander right after the above corner. I KNOW I need to work on my entry here. Need to try late entry and early entry both to see which is best. 4. The esses. I'm ok once I'm in there, but I think my entry could be better. 5. The right-hander you brake for at the end of the straight. There are about a dozen ways to approach this turn and I still don't know which one is best. I'm laying hard on the brakes at the second sign and slowly downshifting to 3rd. Never really saw any time improvements going to 2nd. I've toyed with braking later than the 2nd sign, but it's hit or miss (literally LOL!). Making it to the 3rd sign before braking is impossible. I've tried it a dozen times, and end up in the grandstand every time. I'd love to find another second but I don't know if I have enough time... A BIG hint here - The visibility out of the Mustang is far superior to the Corvette. I felt like I had blinders on in the Vette. I'll be running the #10 canned car for lack of anything else... I can switch if it confilicts, as long as it's a Mustang. -Larry "Brian Oster" <bgoster@swbell**nosmap**.com> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Try going faster through the "kink" in stead - if all goes well, I shift to 5th right after the kink.

Larry & all others - please use your normal carnumbers as it would create a real mess otherwise with the standings. (You can always copy an existing car and change the info for it) cheers jurjen

Being the GPL master that you are you shouldnt have ANY problems keeping up. This short series really suits your "steady" driving style. Keeping it on track will geet you a pretty good finishing position. Anywhere near 1.16 and under control and youre in pretty good shape. (hey didnt oster just say that) :). We're running the TPTCC version which you can get at the uspits. Get the soundpack also. The schedule is being revised to include Lemans-Sartha, Mosport and Road Atlanta so grab em too, see the RSC forum for details. Mitch EldredP wrote: > Ok, now I'm curious. HA, you want a good laugh Eldred. The best I have been able to do is 1.17.2. But, on the bright side, starting at the back at least I can't get punted, but then again after one lap I probably will get punted. bluestringer

Bah, it's just like Kyalami in GPL, except you don't have to slow down quite as much. "EldredP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > > Ok, now I'm curious. If you get the soundpack (and you should) be sure to install John Simmons' D3 Player Picker and install with the option to use d3pp and then you can seamlessly switch soundpacks between the mods. Brian Oster

I would like to get a copy of that too if you don't mind. I have a 1:12 replay from Achim but it's on the converted Kyalami. I want one on the PWF Kyalami so I can get a look at the track markers that people are using. TIA. I'm going backwards, so I'm taking a day off... I'm in the 15's (usually low 15's) fairly consistently, but I'm finding that if I try any harder I end up back in the 16's. I KNOW where I'm losing the time (the kink after the long straight where you have to hard brake and downshift into 3rd, and the sharp right-hander coming onto the long straight). I believe I'm losing a good second in those two corners... I know I'm driving deep enough (second sign) into the first one. Any further and I end up in the Grandstands in a rather spectacular fashion :) -Larry "Mitch_A" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:ASZIb.4536$[email hidden]...

So long as I don't slow them down with my back bumper, that's all I care about. Getting booted out is my biggest worry at this race. I've got SO much time in it it will be devestating to be knocked out like that. I may just take a prov for qual to stay at the rear at the start, and then get into it once things are spread out a bit. It's a long race so there is plenty of time. -Larry "Mitch_A" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:ap1Jb.5143$[email hidden]...

Which kinks are you talking about? There are only two turns that I would describe as kinks and they are both flat out. The first one would be turn 3L, which is the Jukskei sweep. It can be taken flat out, I have (other people's:) replays to prove it. The other is the kink going up the hill towards the s/f line. That is flat out even in GPL. I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but anyway. If you have the pole for this race, do not pass the pace car when he pulls into the pits! You WILL get a BF. Anybody that passes the pace car before the S/F will get a BF. This is very easy to do, the pit road starts right at the kink, and the pace lap speed is 50 mph. Is there anyone going to change the pace and pit speed? 50 mph is real slow. The league I run uses 100. -- Richard "ZZ" Busch Member: Screamers Racing League OAO CORS MARA TransAm RASCAR GPL Rank + 17.415 MoGPL Rank + 318.586 N2002 Rank + 7.695 TransAm Rank ??
