OF1R - observations

3 posts by 1 person · 27 May 1999 - 28 May 1999

I bought OF1R and I have some (initial) observations - - it will not load again after a quit back to the desktop - no steering resistance in the FF effects - if serious damage occurs, e.g. lose tyre, then steering wheel is impossible to control (ok) but even after getting new tyres put on the wheel is still suffering from the earlier damage effects and that makes it impossible to continue. The control menu has got to be activated before the wheel returns to normal - dreadful menu system - no active wing mirrors in 3Dfx version only a large window at the top of the screen (yet the mirrors work in software version!) - Interlagos has no hills effectively - the spins are (despite what I've read elsewhere in this group) totally canned and impossible to control - the graphics are really pathetic even in 800x600 Glide - the car***pit leaps halfway up the screen when touching some kerbs, e.g. Imola, giving a totally unrealistic feel All in all there is nothing good about this sim (?) that I can see at all except the sound! Now, where's my MGPRS CD? Iain
Still a bit silly I'm afraid! It's a very irritating game. I would say 75% arcade fun and 25% sim. I agree with a lot of your points. In some ways OF1R is more FUN than MGPRS, but you get a better feeling in MGPRS of precision and reactions to the different setup options. In OF1R it is possible to win a race using the default setups. Where is the challenge there? TOCA2 is also great fun, but suffers from a similar problem in the respect that it is too easy to win races and championships. I won the championship at my second attempt using the same (non-default) setup on every track! Do you use a FF wheel? If so, do you get resistance in the steering in OF1R? Iain
