I don't have a wheel and pedals yet, and i was thinking of buying a FF wheel. I was leaning towards the Logitech Wingman Formula Force. I would be buying it primarily for GPL. I understand Papy chose not to support FF in the initial release of the game as they didnt think it provided any driver aids and could be an active hindrance. Does supporting FF in a patch mean there has been a change of attitude about FF. Is this more about simply increasing the selling power of the game, or have developers been impressed by the performace of the present range of FF wheels in GPL. If they were impressed, which wheel impressed them the most? An Internet review suggested that there can be problems with the Logitech as it connects using a serial port instead of the game controller port. Is this correct? What experiences have people had with the Logitech? Steve Cova
Your're going to get all sorts of replies claiming one is better than the other. A lot of people recommend the logitech wheel, but agree that the pedals are not good. To me this is a major drawback as ability to be able to smoothly apply acceleration and braking is crucial. I have the MSFF wheel and the pedals are fine and so is the wheel. Maybe the Logitech wheel is a little better - I dont know - I havent compared, but I'm happy with the Microsoft wheel. A FF patch probably is a selling point - but it sounds like theyve implemented it as well as any other game - even if you choose not to use the FF - the wheel is fine without FFB>

They don't know software but hey, the actually know how to make good computer equipment! -- ....................P?l S?rensen ....http://home.sol.no/~pasorens
There aren't any problems with the serial port that I am aware of, however I generally run it as a USB device (it supports both). I love the LWFF...think it has the best wheel, but the pedals definetly IMO are lacking. However, I don't think you can go wrong with the MSFF, the Act Labs version (which has a nice H-pattern shifter add-on) or the LWFF for FF wheels. Personally I went with LWFF not only because of the wheel but because it supported USB.
Well i use the MSFF wheel, but lets face it the pedals are terrible for GPL. So i have my analogue pedals connected directly through the MSFF wheel pedal connection and with the use of DXtweak i can use them with any game i like. I can select them as single or split axis using the profiler as per the digital pedals and really get the best of both worlds. Only slight drawback is that i have torun dxtweak to calibrate everytime i use a game that doesnt do its own calibration. -- Vince Fisher
The pedals ARE anologue (I know, I've had them apart to fix a squeak) & are WAY better than many (if not most) pedal units out there. I've also yet to replace any springs or pots (unlike my T2 unit after 1/4 times as much use) Randy

Hi Steve. I have the Logitech FF Wheel, and I love it. In games that support force, it's a blast. It connects through the USB port, not the serial. I have a TSW2, and find that I prefer the Logitech in games that DON'T support force because of the paddle shifters... especially in GPL. I simply can't drive GPL with one hand and shift with the other. I tried the microsoft wheel, but the paddle shifters (if you can call them than on the MS wheel) are too small and you have to reach too far to hit them. I love the Logitech. My 2 cents. Charlie

Yup... The pedals of the Thrustmaster Formula/Nascar Force are pretty good! Those of the MS FF are a bit less in means of strength... also in FF the TM rules. For the rest the however the MS is more precise has beter drivers and is more robust/better quality... If ther'es a way to increase the springs on the MS peddles I would like to know:-) Even without FF in GPL you benefit of the FF of a FF wheel. My 2c --gjs
