Changing AI of GPL

1 post by 1 person · 07 Sep 1999 - 07 Sep 1999

I just drove some races against the AI yesterday. VROC was down so I had no choice :) The AI in GPL is very good, very often I'm surprised of the good, real life decisions the AI cars make. Ofcourse they're not perfect, one reason being the simplified physics model of the AI, but I think the AI of GPL is the best AI presented in any racing game so far. Still, I did some serious lap driving on Monza, and I noticed (well, it was allready known but I noticed it again) that the AI is in some places faster than quite possible for human drivers, and in other places they're much slower than they have to. The braking in the parabolica was very wrong in 1.0. The AI could brake much later than us mortal drivers. This has been fixed quite well with 1.1, now they brake a little bit more carefull. But I wondered if it is possible to change the places where the AI is slower and where it is faster. I still think they brake a little bit too late in the parabolica, and they take the parabolica itself much too slow. With AITweak we can change the overal behaviour of the AI. I myself don't use it, I think the overal speed of the AI is very good. Allways a bit faster than me :) But it would be nice if we could change the speed of the AI per corner, without affecting the overal speed of the AI. I realize that each human driver takes corners at different speed, so there is no perfect AI setup for every human driver. It would be great if there was an utility with which we could change the AI to drive allmost the same way like we do. Andre
