A friend of mine downloaded it from the internet to test it.
He is evil, I know.
But, I played it, and DAMN WHAT A SIM !!!!
I never expected it to be this good!
I only played it for about ten minutes, but with all the help
functions off, I couldn't drive one lap around Monza without
completely crashing my car, reminding me of my first days with GPL :)
Graphically superb and very smooth, sound is a little less impressive
but I'm sure people will make beter engine sounds for it, and my first
impression of the physics are simply amazing. Again, that's the first
impression, I didn't have time to do all sorts of stunts to test the
physics.
The only thing that was a little dissappointing was the force
feedback, I only could feel the curbes, but maybe that can be adjusted
somewhere. As I said, I couldn't check out all the features in those
ten minutes.
Oh, and it does support more than one controller at the same time :)
I can't wait until this game is in the stores! To hell with GP3, I
want F1 2000 !!!

Early impressions of leaked F1 2000 and piracy argument
Andre Warringa praised the physics of F1 2000 after trying a pirated copy before release. Others reported poor Direct3D graphics, low framerates with AI cars, and crashes on impact. Cliff Roman argued that pirated copies were unreliable for testing and morally wrong, leading to a heated warez debate.

Hehe, always "a friend"... :)
That's good news! Still a bit sceptical myself, but a bit less now.

Before you buy.
interesting, could you be a bit more specific about the details ? w
hat aspect of the physics do you like especially ?
How smooth is the game running (sys.requirements) ?
is there a good replay mode (GPL quality?)
Do the setup options make sense ?
Is the AI good ?
True 3D track surface ? Are the times on the tracks realistic ?
Is no-aids faster than Brake Help etc ?
Is there a LAN multiplayer mode?
can you watch other cars on the track during qualifying and practice ?
what about the crash physics, are they realistic or some stupid cumulative
damage system, and is the damage visible (unlike SCGT) ?
thanks if you can answer some of these,
among others, they make or break a sim for me
cheers,
Alex

only a few files from the game are there:((
As I said, only played the game for about ten minutes, so some short
answers....
It just felt good, with the car spinning and sliding all over the
place. I watched a in-car footage of Senna driving on Monaco 2 days
ago, and when I drive F1 2000 on Monaco, it just looked and felt the
same!
He has a PII 450 with Voodoo II SLI, but he couldn't get the game
working with the voodoo card. So he played with his Viper 550 card,
and even with that card the game run very smooth with all options on
the highest level! This was in training mode with no AI cars.
I saw that there was a replay option, but didn't test it. But there
are very many cam views while driving, so I guess that the replays
will be excellent.
Didn't test it.
Only drove in training mode.
The tracks are true 3d, and Monaco (only track I tested) was really
perfect, with all the bumps and hills on the right spot.
I guess so...
Don't know... stupid, I should've looked for this. I'll call him
tonight and ask him.
Don't know
The crash physics appear to be excellent!! I made some real bad
crashes, and the damage model really looked superb. Driving without a
front wing is REALLYdifficult on the highest level :)
Also I made some big railing crashes at Monaco, and both my wheels
were pointed inwards at different angles, looking very realistic.
See above.
Maybe there still are some flaws with the physics or the AI, it takes
a little bit more than ten minutes to test this more precize.
But a first impression is very important for me, I removed Sos 37,
Ford Racing, Psychnosis F1 99 and Lemans 24 hours after a couple of
minutes driving, but this game gave me a superb impression.
I didn't expect this, after the letdowns of the above game I was very
preserved, but they really did a good job on this one.
Compared to this, GP2 finally looks like an old game :)
Andre

the ISO being the cd version.

D3d looks poor, sounds arent timed with the action, such as shifting. But
overall seems like a decent game.

Downloaded it too, looks good, but very low fps on my

Should be better with my config I would think though.

Hey, I'm interested into how complex the damage model is. After being
disappointed by the cookie-cutter damage models in GP2 and F1RS, I am hoping
for something a lot better when I finish this huge download of this game...
So, could someone please do me a favor? I'd appreciate it if someone would go
backwards and slam into the AI cars at high speed at Hockenheim or Monza and
get a screenshot of the carnage. :)

I have a problem in that whenever I hit a wall or another car - where damage
would come into play - F1 2000 crashes out to Win98 desktop. I'm running a
PII 400 Voodoo3-2000 clocked and cooled at 170Mhz. I'm curious as to
whether or not anyone else is experiencing this.
A couple more comments: Even at 1024x768 the graphics look pretty mediocre
IMO. I think that D3D on a 3DFX card just isn't up to what we used to see
with Glide. At least not in this sim. Also the Force Feedback is almost
completely absent. And the canned sound effect when you run over the curbs
is very lame. I tried to start a race and got about 5 FPS until I bumped
another car (damage) and crashed out again.
When I get the chance I guess I'll turn off damage and see if my speculation
is correct. As far as Internet play is concerned. If the FPS drop is
anything like what I saw in the race with full field, I would venture to
guess it will be a disaster...
BTW - if these issues can be worked out - I'll probably buy this title. If
not, I'll be removing it.

Anyone who tries to use a pirated version of a game to
"analyse" and "test" it is asking for inconsistant results.
Things are missing, files have been patched, etc etc..

When does the Voodoo 5 ship???
-Andrew
According to the Myth.nfo file there are 3 releases of this game. The
Class and evil-iso releases are both based on a Beta version, which
could explain some of the problems people are having with low frame
rates etc..The Myth release is supposed to be the final.
The game bieing available in warez channels doesn't mean its close to
shipping, IIRC Rainbow 6 was on the net a month or so before it
shipped..

Complete nonsense, only files missing are mostly movies and music. The
game itself is the final version.

If they had to take out the movies and music, they had to
patch files to do so. Final version or not

You read that article? Sure made the company famous...
Regards,
Shellfer.
Yes, but ofcourse that doesn't change the physics of the car, the
sounds, the setups or anything else in the game now does it?
So stating that you can't accurately "analyse" or "test" a pirated
copy is nonsense.
The only thing you can't "analyse" or "test" are the movies and music.
But I couldn't care less actually, the movies and music of Lemans were
superb...
