PART1
-----
Ya know what Dave, I'm thoroughly fed up with your bull-fuckin-shit
(RE: RASCAR - Almost Got Kicked Out of Practice Today).
I'm gonna lean on Eldred to kick your cry-baby it-wasn't-my-fault
nobody-knows-how-to-drive-but-me ass out of RASCAR. There, you've
succeeded in driving right past annoying and into outright pissing me
off. Consider yourself off the fucking roster.
PART 2
------
Now, here's a goddamn warning for all the pendantic puerile little
fuck-wads that still think I'm in a forgiving mood.
The rules ON THE WEBSITE are the rules. They are there to improve the
racing, not to intrude on your own twisted idea of what is right or
wrong. The penalties WILL be handed out for the reasons given if
A) I see fit
B) You can't convince me I'm wrong through RATIONAL, CIVIL, and
reasonably fact-based discussion.
C) And finally, unless Edred overrules the decision.
Now, if you don't trust me to be fair, or if you just can't live by
the rules (or the fact that they may be tweaked from time to time),
or if you just haven't been paying attention, QUIT RASCAR.
I'm tired of the pissy bullshit that everyone seems so keen on
perpetuating.
Lastly, Dave, I won't be responding to any messages from you, so you
may as well just sit back, choke your chicken, and revel in self-
serving satisfaction that I lost all sense of control and kicked your
lame ass outa RASCAR.
Mitch, one more lame-ass word or direct, indirect, or otherwise,
about last years's Bristol spring race, and you'll be hot on Dave's
heals. I recommend that you also back off on the criticisms of my
management style. Either deal with the fact that I'm doing the best I
can and for THE GROUP, for get the fuck out.
And I suggest that EVERYBODY learn the lesson that is being taught
here today. I'm completely out of patience - all I want to do is
race.
Notable threadFlame warJohn Simmons's public tirade against David Fisher and RASCAR critics
John Simmons posted an angry two-part message attacking David G Fisher and announcing he would ask Eldred to remove him from RASCAR, along with insults aimed at other critics that he later admitted went too far. Outsiders such as Andrew and EGK said the episode had put them off joining the league, while McWhom defended the rules and Cliff Roman, Mitch_A and Peter Ives criticised Simmons's attitude. The thread was dominated by profanity and personal insults.

Slamming on the brakes when a car is right behind you isn't exactly cool

A) That's precisely why it happened. I decided it wasn't worth the
aggravation. Whie I was visiting the Anger Inn, I decided to let it

No problem, in six weeks when this has all blown over and everyone is used
to the rules we will have plenty of folks wanting to race with us.
If you have a problem with following the rules then don't join. It is
really that simple.

Right, We all agree, so now instead of argueing about the races we are
argueing over the rules to stop the mistakes that are causing the arugueing.
Frankly I am getting dizzy!
I am sick and tired of all the finger pointing. I have had a bad turn of

Right, right. This is the only place discussions have ever gotten out of

I just thought I'd let you know that I'm not going to be responding

If you think you can live within the rules as set forth, go ahead and

If you have a question about the league, I'll be happy to answer
that.

Its not a hard concept to understand
You post a discussion like this in a public NG and you will get input from..
<gasp>, the public
Do I think that the way RASCAR is being run is messed up, most definately.
That is the reason that I have not joined (and yes, I did entertain the idea
a few times).
Now if you do not think that possible members expressing their concerns is
relavent, then there is another issue that should probably be looked at

You do realize telling people to "shut the fuck up" will ALWAYS get you the
opposite reaction. Why, you ask, will it ? Because some folks have big balls
that let them say things over long distances that they wouldnt have the gall
to say in person.
I would LOVE to force everyone on the RASCSAR from a month ago, to sit
together in a room and discuss these problems like men; not snippy, cursing
cowards. I will bet my retirement you folks would have been done in hours,
not days or months. And as a perky little bonus, mayhap the really lippy
ones would have gotten a little makeover.
I dont race in Sierra or leagues. I do basically what you folks in RASCAR
are doing, just on a more private scale. I race with about a dozen friends
and we have had to make a few ground rules as we grew a bit and had to deal
with a few issues. But since we all know each other in real life, we dont
have need for careless and thoughtless personal attacks and crude PUBLIC
displays.
I'm sure this will get me labeled as a firestarter or bandwagon jumper.
Thats just fine, i will consider the source on an individual basis. I kept
my nose out of this facet of r.a.s long enough. This thread, and this whole
"rules" thing was blown way out of proportion, and nobody wants to
compromise or admit any wrongdoing or grow up enough to poll all involved.
The result of which, is and increasing number of "NASty" threads and
interlopers tossing in their .02... Surprise surprise.
However Sean, im sure telling everyone on RAS to "get a fucking life" and
"shut the hell up" has probably righted all the wrongs and you can just
ignore this anyway.

However, just adding to the fire is not positive input. We have had enough
shit thrown around and I personally am sick of it.
John has been attacked for doing the best he can. John is and will be
running rascar for the forseeable future. There are only a couple of guys
at this point raising a huge stink and the peanut gallery only appears to be
adding fuel to the fire.
I welcome any constructive critisism or input

Very well put, and you are correct. I am normally a very composed person
and have contributed to the discussion in a positive way to try and
compromise. If you have truly been following the threads you will have seen
this.
At this point, and I have already admitted this, I have personal issues that
have me a little short on patience. There is a poll posted on our forum, I
posted it. There is also way to much going on here at r.a.s. and I have
said so. I tried to settle things down, new threads have been started that
are out of line. So yeah, I am jumping in with both feet. I wish more
people would post rational input like you have.
Being constructive and positive has not helped. The last gasp here is to
YELL! Loudly! Maybe it will work.

Such as, Have John actually listen to the other drivers and respect their
input instead of having the "I am the boss, what I say goes" attitude
It has also been mentioned several times to have some sort of voting system
when it comes to new ideas and rule implementations. As stated earlier,
RASCAR is not John's league. He may think that it is "his league" but in
all reality it is just a grouping of people from R.A.S. that would like to
race together once in awhile. It was formed by the group, not by one person.
Also, "John has been attacked for doing the best he can" does not mean
anything.. sorry. Everyone can do the best they can, but if what you are
doing is not good enough or is wrong for the situation... it does not
matter.
I do not think the major debate is on if he is doing the best he can, the
debate is on the fact that there are many drivers that do not agree with the
way it is being done and the only response they get from John is basically
the "my way or the highway" attitude. If he would just get rid of that
attitude, treat the others with a little bit of respect.. I think things
would get alot better

I actually think it could get better with John still in RASCAR. For the
most part he does a great job. He just lacks some.. umm... People Skills
Like I said, he just needs to treat people with a little bit of respect.
Everyone in this group deserves respect. For the most part, we have all
been around for a very long time. Even if someone hasn't, they still
deserve respect..
If I saw that drivers were getting "fair shakes" and John was actually
listening to others instead of decided that his way is the only right way..
I would probably join RASCAR immediately. As it stands now though, I just
have no desire to race with someone that can not show respect to others.
I love the idea behind RASCAR.. a get together to have some racing fun with
each other. Problem is, the idea was great.. the implementation of it was
horrible (at least it has become horrible).
Racing is never fun when you have someone dictating to you to the extent
that it has become. Rules are fine, if they do not assume that everyone is
5 years old and needs to have their hand held the entire time

Most of that has been hashed out here, some on the website forum.

I posted a poll (vote) on the forum. So far only 8 votes. 5 wait and see,
2 happy with current set, 1 stricter penalties, 0 needs more work
So the people that want a vote don't seem to be participating or are not a
part of the group.

The majority of members have remained silent, There have been three (forgive
me if I have this number wrong) major disenters (sp?) me being one of
them, obviously I have changed my mind.
This can only be taken as acceptance of the situation.

I agree, Johns people skills could be better. Then again, I and most here
only know John as a bunch of words or a graphical simulation (racecar).
Kind of hard to be personable that way.

No you didn't. You had no say whatsoever in the set of rules, and
that's the problem. I had been hoping to join RASCAR once I got my
connection properly sorted in the near future. I had even had a go at
creating my own paintscheme - something I'm not very adept at, but
thought I'd give it a try - but now I'll have to save it for somewhere

Have you been reading the forum?
http://rascar.racesimcentral.com/
I watched up till about mid week this week. I have had discussions and I
have decided that we need to see how this works
I will also act how I decide and deal with any penalties.
If I decide it does not work for me I will find somewhere else to race.
It is really that simple.
I do feel like John read my posts, made intelligent replies, and
subsequently convinced me.
That is pretty much how a discussion goes.

I don't believe in a voting system, not for sim racing.
What I do believe is the idea that there is a league somewhere out there for
virtually every type of personality. As a member of any league, whether I agree
on the rules or not, is moot. What is important to me, and what I feel everyone
should consider, is do the rules of a given league suit you? If they don't then
simply move on.
I also try to accept that, over time, certain admins gain respect over the
years. Most come and go, wanting to really only race with their friends. It
being only the second year John is 'running' RASCAR, a verdict on his skills as
an admin at this point would be rushed at best.
I have tried to admin a league. You'll find most people who are at least very
good at sim racing avoid being an admin like the plague. There has to be a
reason for it and, I suspect, being judged so harshly has to be just as much an
influence not to admin as is the workload required.
Cliff, in my opinion John does listen. He has on several occasions. Perhaps if
you had been involved in RASCAR discussions all along most people here could
understand more where you're coming from. Sure, John can drive a hard bargain.
But I've said it many times; for me personally, I need rules. And I need
someone who will inforce them on a regular basis and not inflict the group with
more gray areas. For RASCAR, John is that person for me. As for you stating
many think John is wrong, I beg to differ. Most people who Still race RASCAR
have kept silent. If you look closely, the numbers clearly say John has the
support of the majority.
I flamed him and Eldred for my race suspension, quit, and was promptly ignored
by them, being invited to stick around and given the chance to swallow my pride.
That didn't happen on OLR, it didn't happen in the league my brother and I were
accused of cheating, and it didn't happen for me in the NROS. The only league I
ever won dwindled down to nothing to the point where it dimished the
achievement. Now RASCAR wants me to start in the back if I win... Me, the guy
who gets pissed when someone cuts under him :)))
If I commit to racing here, and there is a rule I don't agree with, I'll state
it, and lobby for a change. If I don't get it and it is important enough to me,
I'll leave, plain and simple. But at least I tried to change it from within. I
haven't even read all the new rules for RASCAR and I'm sure of at least that
much.
I'm really not sure what David or Mitch hoped to accomplish by being so
antaganitstic to John. Not saying they're wrong on every point. But they are
not going to win. As long as John and Eldred work together as well as they do
it's their call. Period.
Maybe I am missing something when I see non members choose to decide how and
what the league should be doing. But I can't see myself investing so much time
in a league I would never race in. To me that's just a waist.
To anyone who is considering joining RASCAR, RASCAR IS r.a.s.
I cannot stress how simple that should be for everyone, whether we like it or
not. It has helped the racing league, and it has hurt it. But it is what it
is. It's not changing, so please either deal with it or remind yourself it does
say RASCAR on the thread.
If you want to race in RASCAR, and you're concerned the rules are too heavy
handed, race here, and find out for yourself if it has something to offer you.
Don't listen to anyone else to make your mind up for you; not me, not John, not
Mitch, David, Cliff, Larry, ... decide for yourself.
Since RASCAR still maintains an open invite, I can't think of any reason you
would decide Not to race based on what is said in a forum. For me personally,
anyone who is trying to improve the quality of racing by reducing cautions in
Any manner short of turning yellows off, deserves a chance to prove me wrong.
I'm certainly all for giving them a chance to fail at it :)

Classic usenet stuff I am afraid, Tim. Though it is hardly one sided. Once
a level is reached then every opportunity to flame is taken and there is
always a determination to have the last word. Nobody wins, but guys who
might otherwise agree to disagree end up hating each other as the heat of
the moment is protracted over days, even weeks.
I am sure Bruce has a better explanation :)

Awww. Johnny's fed up. You acted like a dick in that practice session. You
made rude comments to the guy you crashed into in one incident. I said
nothing rude to you. I could have. You were weaving all over the place, and
you were racing me in practice. You 100% caused the second incident (find
one person who thinks you didn't), and you then IMMEDIATELY threatened to
kick me off the server. You're an out of control, small dicked, insecure,
cowboy wanna be.
You've ruined RASCAR.
Congratulations.
Eldred can respond here and tell me that your behavior yesterday was
correct, and I'm off his RASCAR server.
BTW John, I was on Eldred's RASF1 server earlier, and even without you to
CONTROL things, it all went well. Mitch was there too. We didn't ruin
things....imagine that. I even won the race.

I know you and everyone else in r.a.s are primarily good folk and mean well.
I wouldnt have been here for the past 3 or 4 years if it wasnt. But since
the post race vent in here a few weeks ago, things are rolling downhill and
still gathering speed. I really hate to see the brotherhood (so to speak) of
the clan here rattled around by stuff that really isnt any big wiggle when
ya look at it.
I know that RASCAR business is your own business. But, on the flip side,
half of RASCAR is r.a.s :). You are gonna hear what the other half thinks
from time to time. You may not be on Survivor, but CBS banked on its
popularity by guessing a lot of folks would spend all week gossiping and
making opinions as to the who, what, and wheres.
I have chimed in once before. Guilty as charged. My issue was with what i
thought was John being a little coarse. I respect and appreciate John and
Eldred for taking initative and time to make RASCAR for truly being more
than the sum of its parts. Reading race reports and stories of hedonism and
heroism make this newsgroup even more entertaining. Being in automotive for
years, i knew a lot of guys like John that were no nonsense types when it
comes to business and organizational deals. I respect that aspect as well,
and am not so far from that level myself. I also did a year or so of time on
TEN as a Guide, whispering kindly to spew boy (or girl) that behavior of
that type will be tolerated very little. That the only real excuse i can try
and lay back on for crossing the boundary and finally raising The Staff of
Speaking high above my head !
And to make this post more constructive, i offer this. Since RASCAR is part
of a larger whole, how about the powers that be, ask or poll the rest of the
crowd pressed up against the glass what they think would think about a new
course of action or possible new rule. There are a lot of great minds out
here that race in different countries, leagues, associations and the such
that may have a creative way of handling a particular scenario.
Boy am i thirsty from all that typing. Beer break !
I'm counting the times you refer to someone's ass Mitch.
Just in case :)))

And you're doing what, exactly?
The reason you are being treated like a child is because you're acting like
one. This is the longest tantrum I have seen thrown on RAS.

It's true I share some of John's views on how to run RASCAR, yes. Not all,
but some. Seeing as he's doing all the work I'm willing to compromise my
vision for RASCAR and let him do things more his way. I'm also staying on so
I can try to reason him out of things I might disagree with. He's already
dropped two rules I disagreed with (not really because of my arguments, but
still) and changed the wording of another I had issues with.
He is more abrasive in his management style than I am, but it's easier for
us to deal with that than for him to change, I think.

Just a message from the peanut gallery since you're posting all this on a
public forum. How come he gets to judge them on their performance but they
don't get to call him on his?
I read somewhere where someone actually took this advice from the net. It
was sad that the poor child did it and sadder still that it was suggested.
Be it as it may, I hope no one subscribes to killing themselves over a game,
or even killing themselves. Life it too precious to just give it up. I just
burried my father-in-law two weeks ago and so death is still kinda fresh on
my mind. I know that Mitch wasnt serious about the killing and all but some
things I think are best not said, or typed, in public. This is one of them.

Just because they don't like him, doesn't mean he does a bad job of running

those two are so worried about, he's done well to lose his temper just once,

True, it annoys me when I make mistakes, especially when I can't figure out

Knock knock knock, who the hell is John to get rid of me beyond
intentionally wrecking someone? You agree with his rules, thats fine just
go with the few that agreed on those rules and start your own series.
RASCAR wasnt formed for those reasons but you refuse to admit it. This isnt

I can presume anything, even without intimate knowledge.
I am proud of what was acchieved with RASCAR and I want running in it to be
an option for everyone on RAS who's willing to adjust to it's requirements.
It is my opinion you are trying to prevent that for personal reasons, hence
I'm trying to make it absolutely clear you won't succeed in doing so. If
Eldred is adament he wants no futher part in this I'm more than happy to pay
a server rental company the required amount to ensure that those who want to
race, can do so in the framework provided. I am not going to let you

always seem to remind everyone your not very fast. Maybe, maybe not, but I've
never raced you in GPL either.
I just sometimes get the impression that you often thought you weren't that
good, which I didn't really agree with.
Kind of a backass way of making a compliment, my bad :)

"Heals" has to do with the mending of wounds and injuries.
How ironic! :)

It's also the name of a soft furnishing store in Guildford...or did i
dream it?
As I don't live in Guildford, I can't give that post the appreciation it no
doubt deserves, Gerry. :)

That's because I'm not. If you look at the practise times, I'm almost
invariably at the back. For some reason I qualify better than some of the
guys, but that's about it.
GPL? -don't get me started. Due to the fact of having done a it a lot I have
a solid GPLRank and MonsterRank, but I don't consider myself fast. It gets
ridiculous at times: a guy interested in the local GPL competition (Vlaamse
Racing League - VRL) buys a PC, a wheel and GPL in oct '02, come feb '03 I
can't beat this guy anymore, despite 4 years more online experience. In the
GPVL FV league we ran LRP for the first time last year. I started last but
one. This year I have made setup advances and gotten to grips with the track
better. I practise and knock 2 seconds off my best lap. I started last but
one.
I don't let that get to me or anything and I do win races from time to time
(and have won three Championships), it's just you also get to race in places
(like the GPVL and VRL) where the competition is just that little bit more
intense and that helps to keep things in perspective.

I am confident in my ability and I know how to get maximum benifit out of
it, but I do feel I'm not "naturally" fast and I try not to act as if I'm
better than anybody else (unless jokingly).

No problem, thanks!

Do you realize how silly it us to post inflamatory messages on Usenet,
and expect people to "just shut the hell up"? It's like my 12-yer-old
when he's having a temper tantrum, slamming his door and screaming at
the top of his lungs "LEAVE ME ALONE!". Well if that was really what
he wanted he'd be quiet wouldn't he?

Context is very important. It was a long discussion and to take one
paragraph and make a point with it is easy enough, but it really destroys
the context of the conversation.

It is quite funny, if only because most participants aren't 12
year-olds (I'm assuming) yet their behaviour is so much like one on a
bad day.
Real 12-year-olds are a pain. Adults acting like them? That's
entertainment!

Nah, the national DNS servers just got screwed up and accidently pointed us
all to MHOGaming.
