Is the demo performance indicative of the full version?
It runs choppy on my system:
AMD X2 3600
7900GS
2GB RAM
Medium settings, 1440X9000
Colin McRae DiRT demo performance and Starforce
A user found the DiRT demo choppy, and others said it needed powerful hardware and that both demo and retail versions used Starforce. Some refused to install it for fear of drive damage, while others reported it ran well on newer systems at lower resolutions.
Automated summary.

Really? I don't think thats acceptable to do that. There's no warning at all
during installation.
Although I've been pretty lucky with StarFarce, its only corrupted 1 of my
optical drives....

Yeah, looks like I will keep playing GTR 2 and Trackmania.
Even Need for Speed Carbon runs better than Mcrap.

BTW, I am talking about the full retail version of the sim, not the demo
version.

I know Starforce sucks but the way prices are going, the games will be more
expensive than the actual drives!
Maybe they should throw in an optical drive with Starforce games in
future......

Just an update, I turned res down to 1280X960 and it runs much better.
Definitely need to turn down the bloom effects a notch or two

Go to GameCopyWorld and get the NoDVD exe. After the setup completes
you need to install the V1.2 patch (from Codemasters site), make a
backup of the original exe and copy over the NoDVD exe BEFORE you run
the game. There will be no reboot required and starforce does not get
installed. The NoDVD for V1.1 there also works as a replacement exe
file after installing the V1.2 patch.
Good luck,

This is the second time I've read this here and it is totally wrong.
GPL came out, ruled the world, and went away long before Starforce was
invented. Maybe you mean GTL, Grand TOURING Legends.

Better compression (most of the time RAR at lowest compression creates
an archive smaller than ZIP at the highest compression), better
security (zip passwords are easily cracked), ability to split large
files into multiple smalller parts at a user defined size for just a
few reasons.
You can always go to rarlabs.com and get the free unrar program.

Hmm, I'll try that res and see how it goes, but I'm not really noticing
any problems with 1400 x 900, as the sim runs great and FPS are good.
What are bloom effects?

You could lower the res a bit. Oh, wait, you are using an LCD so it will
look like crap if you do that. That's why CRT's are so superior to LCD's.

The optical drives already are cheaper than most games. My latest OEM
Samsung optical DVD drive has Lightscribe, SATA and DVD-RAM and only cost me
$39.99 CAD, most games cost $59.99 CAD.

I use FF at GCW with no issues, but I use the noscript plugin for FF so no
funny business can go on. To extract zip files just get 7zip or WinRAR, you
are supposed top pay for WinRAR though and 7zip is free and does the same
job.

A type of lighting effect that makes light sources bloom out. That's the
best way I can describe it. Some games it looks good but some overdo it and
it washes out details.

Is that what it is? The graphics are good, but they look too
smooth, fuzzy, and washed out.
