Hey Sim Gurus,
I don't watch this group as much as I did because I NOW have an Antique SIM
computer ( Intel 450mhz Pentium III with a Voodoo 2000 graphics card with a
whopping 16 mb memory !!!! Whoopee!
However I need to find a good FREE Photo editing program for editing photos
that I scan in and then crop and do the basic tasks required do before sic
tasks to upload to my website ! I am using .PSP 8 demo but it only lasts
60 days< The other program "JASC Paint Shop Photo Album" but it's demo
period is limited too
Any suggestions ?????????
Please email me personally if possible !
I will join the group again when I update computers soon !

Serif offer an older version of their PhotoPlus software for free (ver 5.0)
It's pretty good and similar to Paintshop Pro.
www.serif.com

....at least they used to - can't find it on their site at the
moment......hopefully a google of "free photoplus 5" will turn up
something...

GIMP is your legal choice. It's open source clone of Photoshop.
For low prince, I'd look for a copy of PhotoImpact 5 or 6, as it's
as low $10. Current version is 8, and it lists for $99 (store price
$80).

I found it but they sure do ask a lot of questions before letting you
get it. I suspect my spam filter is about to get a lot more business.

Oh, so there is a GIMP for Windows? Have to give that a try!
Is it as good as PhotoShop?

GIMP for Windows is on:

I've never used photoshop, so can't compare! However, the above page
does state:
"But it is not a Photoshop killer (for professional Photoshop users,
that is). Photoshop has lots of features that the GIMP lacks."
However, for your stated purpose it will be more than adequate, IMHO.

Check out theese too:
http://www.wingimp.org/
http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/
3 things are cumbersome with win-gimp:
* It crashes a lot. (but you'll learn to save)
* The resizing isn't nearly as sharp as a resized image-part in photoshop
* You cannot drag layers from one image to another.
But it's still a really cool program!
:)

It's not a clone of Photoshop. It does some of the same things as
Photoshop but it's not a clone. But that's what I would recommned too
if one is looking for a freeby photo editor.

No. But Photoshp costs $950.00 CAD + tax and Gimp costs $0.00.

Geez, I remember when you got that hulk. 'Bout time to splurge again, isn't it? :)
Goy is correct, if a bit slow. I've been using IRFanView for about 2 years now, and I even told Goy about it
Guess I can see that he really pays attention to the important things I tell him... <GRIN>
For basic crop, rotate, contrast (and even batch conversion, resize and so on), go with
http://www.irfanview.com/ It will do all the things you need to get pictures on a website.
GIMP is probably a bit more editing than what you're looking for.
Cheers!

try the gimp (http://www.gimp.org/) it also has nice macros and
scripts for creating logos and stuff. Much like photoshop, but
free both as in speech and in beer ;-)
